A lot is being said on all sides as the latest proposal for comprehensive immigration reform at the federal level wrecked like a train driven by Wile E Coyote in an old Road Runner cartoon . For many in Georgia it is leading to a lot of questions as it comes when the now infamous SB 529 and SB 38 go into effect this week.

The main questions facing the communities in my district seem to be “what impact will these two state laws have now that it looks like actually solving the immigration mess has fallen victim to politicians playing to the worst in special interest groupsâ€

That sounds more like it was written by LaRaza! What a sickening pandering display for a so-called American Representative!

These guys bash immigrants...

You sir are a LIAR! Nobody has bashed any immigrant.....in case you haven't heard, it's about ILLEGAL ALIENS!! Stop sucking up long enough to at least realize what the problem is and realize you are alienating a huge portion of the AMERICANS who vote for you, including LEGAL immigrants!

The only good thing I gleaned from this article is those of you in Georgia know who NOT to vote for next time. He's obviously not thinking along the same lines as most Georgians I've talked to.

Unbelievable pandering. Will it ever stop?

Judge scraps deportation order against Senator's wife
An immigration judge on Tuesday scrapped a deportation order filed against the wife of state Senator Curt Thompson, allowing her to remain in the country.

Federal officials went into court Tuesday morning and supported Sascha Herrera Thompson's bid to block her deportation.

`Based on the unique facts of this case, we agreed not to appeal reopening the case,` said Terry Bird, chief counsel for the Atlanta office of Immigration and Custom Enforcement.

Bird said that Judge William A. Cassidy expressed concern that Sascha Thompson's deportation appeared to be the result of bad paperwork filed by a notario. The judge urged that the notario be prosecuted, if possible.

Thompson said in a statement last week his wife, who is from Colombia, had been the victim of the unidentified notario. The term notario refers to attorneys in many Latin American countries. In the U.S. it means notary public. The notario in the Herrera case failed to provide proper address information on some of her applications, Thompson said. As a result she missed notification of a key hearing. (A likely story. )

Thompson will be allowed to go home and continue to pursue a visa application the couple filed soon after they married last spring.

Federal immigration officials had come to the home of the couple, who married earlier this year, and informed Thompson his wife had a deportation order against her.

Dear Senator Thompson,

I just read your comments in Mundo Hispanico, July 05,2007, and I find it reprehensible for a public official to advocate disrespect for our nation's laws.

You are obviously oblivious to the actual number of Americans that realize the problem that illegal immigration has become, so I can’t understand how calling the majority of your constituents “racistsâ€

What a traitor! Well you people in Georgia found out he is not for a law abiding state, rule of law how ever you want to put it he is for anarchy, time to get rid of him, to bad you couldn't get this article out around Georgia!!

Well now, this just ices my cake.

Can we get organised and have those from GA take this article and email it across the state . Sen. Curt Thompson represents parts of Gwinnett and DeKalb doesnt deserve to be re-elected. He does deserve LOTS of phone calls from citizens

Who is from GA. Can they take charge of this/ I would be happy to email this Senator Curt Thompson if I had his email...
