More jail time for people who hire illegals

What this illegal immagration boils down to is big business gets cheap labor, plan and simple. If we really want immigration reform, managers and business owners should be prosecuted for hiring illegal workers. Drop the fines for hiring illegals and change that to jail time. Do not fine the "company" since a company does not exist except on paper. Get the laws changed so that business owners and managers that hire illegals can go to jail as a felon. Get the bar raised so that the penality is more then a speeding ticket, a year or two in prison, not the county jail for hiring illegal workers. With these kinds of laws, business's will not hire illegals. Since the person that signed the hire slip can go to jail for a year for every illegal hired, how many managers are willing to risk a year with their family just to get cheap labor???

I disagree. I think they should pay the fines so that our gov't can stop whining about how expensive it is to deport the illegals.

    fine

Fine the person that hired the illegal, make them responsible - fines and jail time. Maybe if they lose their house or car from not working, because they are in jail, they will think again before hiring an illegal. It wont take long for word to get around the corporate world.

the fines collected are an integral part of how we'll offset the cost of fighting this problem.

however what's wrong with a fine and jail time?

The governments whole argument of how costly it will be to deport them all is ridiculous. When you factor in what it costs to give them free healthcare, welfare, educate their children , and the cost of those incarcerated in our jails it doesn't even compare. Supporting them all and the continuing multitudes of children they have will cost billions more than deportation.

The problem with large fine is it becomes a revenue source. Jail time is a better deterrent. This big executives don't want to go to jail as they cannot spend their illegally gained wares while in jail.

Fines are good. Jail time is good. But I think if you REALLY want to send a message to the business community on this issue that you TAKE AWAY THEIR BUSINESS LICENSE. First offense should be to lose their license for a year, second offense five years and third offense for life. See how fAST businesses would decide it isn't in their best interest if they hired illegals!
Can you imagine Walmart or Tyson having their business license YANKED for a YEAR?

libbeebell, I like that addition of pulling their license. We need the money, even the jail time I'm not so sure is a deterent since they can pass the buck on down the line......but the license would be an incentive. As long as they weren't allowed to re-open under another name.
