Dirty Tricks in the Cornfield?
In my opinion something is not right about Huckabee coming in 2nd and Brownback coming in 3rd. Just a gut feeling. This came from America First 2008.
Not directly an illegal immigration issue, but the outcome in 2008 will definitely affect illegal immigration.

America First 2008
Update
Were there dirty tricks in the Cornfield?
1. At 8pm the night before the Iowa Straw Poll, an email was sent to the general Republican list of Iowa Republicans. It said that the Tancredo buses were cancelled. By the time the Tancredo campaign heard of this false email, it was too late to respond that evening. The result was that many Tancredo supporters drove to the Iowa straw poll. It is undetemrined how many Tancredo supporters simply stayed home, thinking they had no transportation. Who sent this email has not been identified?
2. Each campaign bought tickets for straw poll voters at $35 per ticket.
Romney bought 6,000 and had 4,516 votes. This is a completion rate of 75.2%. Tancredo bought 2,300 tickets and had 1,961votes for a 85.2% completition.
It is reported that Huckabee's campaign purchased 1,800 tickets, but then had 2,587 votes. That means that over 700 Huckabee supporters had to show up at Ames and purchase tickets at the Straw Poll. Huckabee had no buses bringing in voters as did Romney and Tancredo. So if he had a surge in the afternoon, where did it come from?
3. Buses stopped arriving about 1pm. Huckabee had no buses to bring in voters at any date, much less a late date.
4. At 2pm, ABC news reported from its exit polling data that Tancredo was in second place.
5. After 3-4pm, a surge in the voting was reported. Where this surge was from is not determined. There seemed to be no surge in voters going to the various voting locations.
6. The vote was then delayed from 7 pm to 8:40. Two machines reportedly malfunctioned and the votes were handcounted from those two machines. Voting occurs by the machine reading a paper ballot. The reason given for this was "humidity" but the machines were in air-condidtioned buildings.
Questions:
1. Who sent out the email saying that Tancredo buses were cancelled?
2. Where did the late surge in voting come from? How many votes were cast in this period?
3. Is the reported vote valid? Should a complete hand count of all the paper ballots be done?
4. Where did the "surge" in voting come from in the afternoon? Was it a few voting machines? How many votes were in this surge? Were these the same machines that required a handcount? Could this have been fraud in the use of the machines?
A full investigation of these questions should be initiated by the Republican Party of Iowa. The integrity of the vote and the oversight of the Straw Poll is in question.
Obviously, these questions have an impact on the total race for the Republican presidential election. How did Tancredo go from number 2 in the ABC exit poll in the afternoon to fourth? And what would be the implication if he had finished second?

If anyone thinks our elections are going to be left to whims of the electorate - they are naive.

Tancredo investigating bus cancellation hoax

Staff for Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo are looking into a hoax e-mail sent today to nearly 500 people saying buses transporting Tancredo supporters to Saturday's straw poll in Ames had been canceled.
"This is a blatant attempt to derail our efforts for the straw poll," said Alan Moore, spokesman for Rep. Tancredo, R-Colo.
The bogus e-mail sent around 10:45 a.m. today to about 490 recipients stated the Tancredo campaign had canceled 10 buses and changed the pickup times for 40 other buses.
The e-mail said the changes were made "because of efforts by some of our opponents, a number of businesses have been forced to deny our ability to use their sites for parking and coordinated campaign activities."
Moore said the e-mail is false and that the Tancredo bus schedule remains the same.
The campaign plans to send a message to all recipients of the hoax e-mail alerting them to the false message, Moore said. They will also try to find out who sent the bogus e-mail, he said.
"We're looking into it, but there's only so much we can do," Moore said.
Tancredo is among eight Republicans participating in Saturday's straw poll in Ames.
