    What happened to Duncan Hunter?
I'm wondering the same thing myself. I thought Iowans were pretty much social conservatives.
And Brownback? In the top 3? Whaaaat?

Don't recall hearing of him being in the state, maybe that's why.
If he didn't campaign there few people would know who he is.

What does this "Straw Poll" really tell us? Who could buy the most votes?

Romney’s area, twice the size of many of his rivals’, featured a rock climbing area and kids’ play area, with two tents giving supporters respite from the broiling sun.

Any Iowa resident at least 18 years old, regardless of party, can vote in the poll, which is a fund-raiser for the Iowa Republican Party. A ticket to vote costs $35, and many campaigns were footing the bill for as many supporters as they could afford.

In my opinion, it's a cross-section of the corruptness we face with the general election in 2008. That's scary.

I was happy with Tom's numbers. This is respectable for him. I'm sure he spent way less money than Romney did to buy all those tickets, bus rides, food, etc. So it's on to New Hampshire.

I read there were 26,000 tickets sold, but only around 13,000 plus voted. So many people probably brought their kids and had a heck of a time at all the candidates' expense.

According to what I just read, Romney spent MILLIONS and purchased the $35 cards used for voting by the thousands. Nothing like trying to buy an election.

Duncan Hunter performed very well in the debates.

He also gave a fine straw poll speech.

Someone told me last night about a call she made many years ago to Duncan Hunter's Washington office at night. He answered the phone and took the time to talk with her for quite some time even though she was not a consituent of his. That is very impressive.
