My experience living near a 97% hispanic town.

I spent the summers of my youth working on a farm near San Luis, Colorado. Back in the 70's, a group of peace-loving hippies bought some land near the town and built a large structure for their commune. The proximity of the gringos was not comfortable for the dominant Mexican-American population, so one evening when the hippies were away, they burned the commune to the ground.

Was it because they were gringos or because they were hippies? Did anyone every give any prior hint of discontent, and why?
