Let's protest Bush's choice for RNC Chairman

Okay folks, we need to stop Bush's fellow amnesty buddy Sen. Martinez (R-FL) from being appointed as the RNC Chairman! Received the following action request from NumbersUSA today:

TIME-SENSITIVE: Call your state RNC office to oppose Sen. Martinez as RNC Chairman

This new Phone Call Request has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.

Call your state GOP office immediately! This action will expire on Friday, January 29.

The RNC will vote on Friday, January 19, on whether to elect their next Chairman. President Bush is strongly pushing to put Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) in the post. Martinez, who was a prime mover in supporting last year's Senate amnesty-laden immigration scheme (S. 2611), is one of the leading advocates of amnesty for illegal aliens in Congress.

Martinez is likely to win the post, despite strong opposition.

Let's flood state RNC offices with phone calls opposing the election of Sen. Martinez to lead the national GOP apparatus.

We can create a firestorm of opposition to put the RNC, Sen. Martinez, and President Bush on notice that amnesty will not be tolerated by Republican voters.

This is an urgent action alert for those of you who checked Republican interests on your surveys. Please note: THIS ACTION WILL EXPIRE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 19.
I know this information probably belongs under the "NEWS FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONs" forum, but if you're like me, you probably don't check that forum routinely (not enough time in the day). Thought this item to important to take a chance on it not getting seen by everyone.

Please call today if at all possible. Thanks.

I've contacted my RNC members to express my opposition to a Martinez appointment.

It's my understanding that Mike Duncan, KY, of the RNC will likely be the official chairman, and Martinez possibly the "general chairman", which would make him basically the "face" of the RNC. In other words, his mug will grace the news channels, and he'd be handling PR. Duncan would be the "nuts and bolts" guy, running the day to day operations of the RNC. I've read that Duncan is more low-profile than Martinez, and I interpret that to mean he doesn't seek the limelight. I've tried to find some information on his stand on immigration, but haven't had much luck. The only comment I could find alluded to him not being an immigration-control "hardliner".
