    My stance on immigration.

Let me start first, by saying if you disagree with anything I say, fine. Debate the topic. But please don't start name calling. What I post here is my current stance on immigration but that can change as I read more about it.

With that out of the way, let me start by saying that I am not a racist. I have family who live in Mexico actually. My grandfather lives in Mexico City as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. They are my step-mother's family and I love them all dearly. I would love for them to come back to the states to visit, and even move if they wish. Some, in the past, have moved into the states LEGALLY, and eventually went back home to be closer to my Abilito, who is getting frail and old.

I have nothing at all against Mexicans. My beef, though, is those that come into this country without going through the proper channels.

Let me pause a moment and say that I do know how hard it is to become a legal citizen here. I am married to an Australian citizen who wanted to move here after our wedding. The amount of paperwork to even begin the process was outrageous and the money needed was even more. While part of me understands why it was made so difficult, another part of me wished it would be a lot easier. (Just a side note... he returned to Australia the day his visa expired... 10 days after our wedding, and that was the last time I saw him. I am in the process of trying to divorce him but he is drawing it out as much as possible... 3 years, in fact... and I can't use the law as he's in Melbourne.)

That all said, this is what I wish would happen. First off... there are two choices. Either (a.) Send every illegal immigrant home.... if they have kids that were born here... into the system they go. These people are CRIMINALS. What they are doing is ILLEGAL. If a father and mother go out and rob a store and get caught... they get put in jail and the kids get put into the system... right? There ya have it. The kids can be put into the system... AND TAUGHT ENGLISH. The other choice (b.) Grant every illigal immigrant legal status. But charge them for back taxes. If they have no documents showing when they first got here... then set up a default time (say 3 years) and make them pay 3 years worth of taxes. Unfair? Don't like it? GO HOME.

Secondly, look at the immigration laws. Really look at them, not just from a red-tape-lover's point of view, but look at it from the point of view from someone wishing to be granted legal status. See what could be changed to make it not easier, really but take less time to become "legal".

Thirdly, put in a law that states that English is the national language. I am sick and tired of trying to find a job only to be turned down because I'm not bi-lingual. I shouldn't have to be. If I wanted to learn Spanish, I woulda done do and moved down to Mexico City, where I was offered my own home free of charge by my grandfather there! I hate going into stores and the cashiers can barely say "That will be 30 dollars and 95 cents (I HATE GAS PRICES TOO!!!) Have a nice day" because he was born somewhere else. (I don't care if most of the Arab, Iranian, Iraquian or whatevers are legal... learn to speak ENGLISH!)

When I visit Mexico, I don't expect everyone there to suddenly start speaking English so I can understand. I don't use the telephone there expecting to be able to understand that if I press "2" I can have my conversation in English. America has placated these people for too long! I don't want to press "1" for English... they wanted to live here... learn to speak the language. (and since when did it become our job to teach them English?? If I move there, will there be a federal program to teach me Spanish?)

And lastly... Foxx needs to get the hell out of the US and go home. He needs to take all of his illegals with him. If he wants to remain then I think he should be escorted by 10 armed troops (or more) and made to go only where we tell him to go, not where he wants to go.

Basically, my philosiphy on the whole thing is this. Abide by our laws, or GO HOME.

    Reesa,

Great points. I think it is very important that someone with your experiences speaks on these issues.

We do have a 3rd way. We do not have to chose between deporting every illegal alien or amnesty.

By enforcing our existing immigration laws we can begin to reduce the number of illegals in America. Our problem is not the existing laws, our problem is non-enforcement of our existing laws.

When you look closely at why the immigration system is broken, it is because they have cut funding and changed things so that those trying to legally immigrate run into an unfair red tape hell with an understaffed agency. It's not just the wait and the cost, it is the fact legal immigration channels are in a shambles.

Then when you look at enforcement, you find that enforcement has been derailed by the executive branch. My best guess is that enforcement of our existing laws have been derailed by the corrupt financial interests that seek to profit from illegal immigration.

The message has been sent that America is wide open to illegals due to non enforcement of our existing laws. Border Patrol has been ordered to catch and release. ICE has been ordered not to FINE employers. And when you look even closer you find those with great influence that plan to erase our borders all together.

We must reverse this. We must save America from these people that have broken faith with our laws, values, constitution, and the American public.

We can reverse illegal immigration but we must be strong, fair, and seek justice for American and justice applied to those that break our laws.

    Welcome Reesa!

    Have at it. Vent away.

Keep on Washington. We all have to do all we can to stop this insanity.

Good point... I forgot to add in the problem with employers. Sorry about that. But yes, employers should be fined HEAVILY. Problem is, though, I don't see this happening since too many large companies have politicians in their back pockets.

The only way I see to hurt these companies is a complete boycott by US citizens. Unfortunatly, many don't want to be as confrontational as this. They still want their burgers and shakes and such.

Actually, it would be very hard to boycott all of them. There are sooooo many. The all want cheap labor.

You can go to www.wehirealiens.com. They have a very long list of companies that employ illegal aliens.

    Reesa, WElcome.

dlm1968, Actually boycott would not be that hard.
You are correct that we cannot boycott all of them. We won't have to do that.

Read the boycott sticky. So far it hasn't gotten much traction - but we are going to have to get together and do it.

We don't have to stop buying everything. Just take one large industry and stop buying their products. Just one industry at a time.

If we had all gotten together and stopped purchasing poultry products for the 2 months the boycott has been going on - you would be seeing thousands of illegals out of work and considering going home.

You can't just pick and choose whatever individual business or chain you want to boycott. That will do no good. A lot of people don't buy Tyson - and rightly so. But do we all know all the various labels Tyson markets its poultry products? So all they have to do is just stick one of their other labels on their products and hey, they are still in business.

If we put a real hurt on Tyson - then Perdue, Pilgrims, etc., are still in business - and probably getting a little of Tyson's business. So, they can just hire the illegals no longer working for Tyson's. The illegals are a fluid group, so they can move from one to the other.

If, however, we just stop buying poultry products, all of them, that means turkey, turkey products, processed meat, KFC, Church's, etc. It just has to work.

Then we could move on to beef or pork. These are all perishable products. They can't hold too long and they all have a well-oiled chain that takes these products from growers to processing. Any slowdown creates big problems.

If we can have some effect on one - then two - maybe even three big industries - the rest might get the idea. Like a pack of dogs, you don't always have to get all of the pack, just take out a few of the leaders and the rest gets the message.

Right now poultry is vulnerable. I don't know if it is bird flu or what - but they have been 'dumping' products for a couple of months.

But if we are going to continue to give them our hard earned money, they will continue to use it to hire the illegals and purchase politicians to sell us and our country down the drain.

We really do have the power to do something - we just have to get together.

If you don't like the idea of 'boycott' - just call it 'Defensive Spending'.

    Reesa,
    RE:No, I didn't vote for him

Very refreshing to hear that. That tells me that you are a person of principle. I hear people whine and whine and whine and then in the moment of truth they continue to vote to support the problem. If you support the problem you offer no incentive to solve the problem. I voted for Bush in 2000 and did activism work and even got a thank you letter and an invitation to the inauguration.....but then in 2001 he calls for amnesty.......what? Bush showed that he is a anti-American tyrant immediately after taking office. In 2004 I did a write-in. If amnesty becomes law I will vote against every R on the ballot on election day 2006.
