I'm not saying using seat belts aren't good.........but it is a money racket for the insurance companies. The guy that hit her, never even got a ticket cause his grandpa was some hotshot in government in Georgia and bought him out of it. That's what really stunk...
Sorry about your sister crazybird.......I know how it feels.END OF AN ERA 1/20/2009

Thats truely awful Ruthiela, I am so sorry for your loss.
This "click it or ticket" revenue raising initiative is BS! What we need are No license, OR insurance, OR valid registration..go directly to jail (or back to country of origin) road blocks!

07-11-2006, 11:06 PM #13ruthiela - I, too am sorry about what happened to your sister. But, here's something people, may (or may not) know. I used to work at Chrysler Proving Grounds in Michigan as a test driver-mechanic. One of the things I learned during a period when I was in the "impact" lab was that - at anything over 28 miles per hour - in a head on collision - it really didn't matter if you had a seat belt on or not. The entire chassis was shoved at you - crushing you. (that was before the days of airbags).

Now, I must admit, I'm one of those mavericks who believes I should make my own life choices - and when the "we'll protect you for your own good folks" made it a law to wear seatbelts, I stopped doing so. Childish knee jerk reaction, but there it is. One of these days, I'm going to get stopped and fined mightily. And I have no reason to gripe, cause I am breaking the law.
I just hate anybody telling me what's good for me.

Cheyenewoman, road rallies were fun. I had a 61 MGA. I was glad to see the return of the Mini Coopers. I want one with a rag top. Sorry to digress seat belts are swell.

Unless they changed something in the bill yesterday, police aren't allowed to pull anybody for not wearing seatbelts in the back seat. They can only ticket IF they've been stopped for different offense.

Thanks all........but my point is this. All the seat belt laws in the country isn't going to help anything if some darned POLITICIAN can make it where someone who is to blame for something like this gets away without so much as even a ticket. It's the Politicians that are so darned corrupt that all the laws in our country aren't worth anything as long as they can manipulate them whenever they want to for their own greed.
As with all Politicians.........
"Money talks, BS walks"
Believe it or not, they made it sound like my sister was at fault for getting killed. And she was just driving down the road, legally, right speed and all.END OF AN ERA 1/20/2009

07-12-2006, 09:52 AM #19a 61 MGA - I am envious. I was living in Michigan then and belonged to SCCA and REALM (a group my brother and I founded). Had an absolute ball. I had one of the 5 "rally Valiants" built by Chrysler for Scott Harvey.

I'm mixed. Granted the seat belt would most likely have saved my sister. But it busted my hips up in my accident. Then of course I don't really know what would have happened if it were off.
I just know in my own case......anyone in cars at that school yard were watched and ticketed if your kids weren't buckled up. It was a 150.00 fine per child. Yet they'd allow 20 kids to pile in a van and say nothing. There weren't even seats in it let alone seat belts. I sat and counted them one day. I remember wondering how on earth they all fit with back-packs and all. I had friends who had pick-ups and got tickets when they had one child in front. Yet like I said earlier, you could have adults and kids all piled in and you could see in the front windshield and see the mom holding the infant that wasn't in a baby seat and all the other little ones.......and nothing. I agree that it's more for revenue than anything.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
