NCLR ("La Raza"): public disclosure of records?
Since NCLR ("La Raza") is state-funded can't we, the US taxpayer, demand
full disclosure of their financial records and meeting minutes? Does anyone know if there would be some basis in law to bring a lawsuit to force them to disclose their records? If La Raza has nothing to hide, they should only be too happy to publicly disclose these records...por las chupacabras todo, fuero de las chupacabras nada

La Raza is classified as a 501(c)(3) Public Charity, so you can go to http://www.guidestar.org and look at several of their filings for free.
The below link should lead to the La Raza filing page, but you will need a username and password to reach it. I used an account off bugmenot.com and got in with no problem.

On this site you will find La Raza's Form 990 filings. Form 990 is an annual reporting return that certain federally tax-exempt organizations must file with the IRS. It provides information on the filing organization's mission, programs, and finances.
Years 1998 through 2005 are available here. Each filing is about 50 pages in length. You might have to write the IRS and request the one for 2006 at http://www.irs.gov/foia/index.html"We have decided man doesn't need a backbone any more; to have one is old-fashioned. From these documents, for example, I see on page 30 that in 2005:
Pepsi Co. donated $450,000 to La Raza.
It looks like Bank of America contributed $1 million in 2005.
Bill and Melinda Gates foundation donated $891K.
The Department of HUD donated almost $1.5 million.
Ford donated $550K.
Fannie May donated $1.3 million.
Macauthor Foundation contributed $650K."We have decided man doesn't need a backbone any more; to have one is old-fashioned. Someday we're going to slip it back on." - William Faulkner

From bugmenot.com - http://www.bugmenot.com/
BugMeNot.com was created as a mechanism to quickly bypass the login of web sites that require compulsory registration and/or the collection of personal/demographic information (such as the New York Times)."We have decided man doesn't need a backbone any more; to have one is old-fashioned. This appears to be the same data, but with no login or registration required. Don't see the contributions by corporations, though.

I wasn't particularly interested in where La Raza gets its operating funds from
(except for government sources) I was more interested in what groups they FUND w/this money.
I'd also be interested to know how a not-for-profit organization that receives Federal funding can also lobby congress for additional funds. I've heard that this violates the terms of being a not-for-profit? Or maybe that there are federal regs that prohibit them from lobbying congress when they receive federal funding? I wish I was a lawyer.por las chupacabras todo, fuero de las chupacabras nada
