Council supports bill for universal health care

The Louisville Metro Council this week passed a resolution in support of a national bill calling for universal health care for Americans.

The council endorsed House Resolution 676, introduced by Democratic Rep. John Conyers Jr. of Michigan, which would expand Medicare and create a "single-payer" health-care system, publicly financed and privately delivered.

Under the proposal, people would have access regardless of employment, income or health. Each year, the program would set reimbursement rates for health-care providers and negotiate the cost of prescriptions.

Many say the controversial proposal isn't likely to become law. Although opponents agree that the problem of the uninsured must be addressed, they say a national system would drive up taxes, stifle medical innovation and lead to waits for services.

Take a look at what this bill is from Conyers' Website.

The United States National Health Insurance Act, H.R. 676
(“Expanded & Improved Medicare For All”)
*introduced by Reps. John Conyers, Dennis Kucinich, Jim McDermott and Donna Christensen

"National health insurance is not only the best answer,
it is the only answer to eliminating health disparities."
Representative John Conyers, Jr., State of the Black Union 2005

In 2003, Rep. Conyers first introduced HR 676, the United States National Health Insurance Act. Under HR 676, Medicare would be extended and improved so that all individuals residing in the United States would receive high quality and affordable health care services. They would receive all medically necessary services by the physicians of their choice, with no restrictions on what providers they could visit. If implemented, the United States National Health Insurance Act would cover primary care, dental, mental health, prescription drugs, and long term care.

    Brief Summary of HR 676

The United States National Health Insurance Act establishes an American national health insurance program. The bill would create a publicly financed, privately delivered health care system that uses the already existing Medicare program by expanding and improving it to all U.S. residents, and all residents living in U.S. territories. The goal of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access, guaranteed by law, to the highest quality and most cost effective health care services regardless of their employment, income, or health status.
With over 45-75 million uninsured Americans, and another 50 million who are under- insured, the time has come to change our inefficient and costly fragmented non health care system.

    Who is Eligible

Every person living in or visiting the United States and the U.S. Territories would receive a United States National Health Insurance Card and ID number once they enroll at the appropriate location. Social Security numbers may not be used when assigning ID cards.
If you can spare an email tell my Louisville Councilman what you think and write your Congress critters for sure.

Looks like another Democrat attempting to take care of the illegal immigrants among us. His plan would effectively have all American citizens covering the complete healthcare and dental needs of 20-30 million illegal immigrants.

Lord, please don't let the Democrats take control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November (visual: I'm on my knees).

    You said it MW.
There are some heavy duty OBL lobbies here like UPS that spent all the bucks on Cannon. We've got both Catholics and Prebyterians aiding and abetting the importation of illegals. And the many hospitals must be suffering under the load. We lost our SW county hospital altogether. I suspect the hospitals will be trying to get this healthcare thing rolling so thay can get the costs out of their emergency rooms and into our wallets.

Hey, it covers visitors from anywhere in the world. Need a million dollar heart transplant, no problem, buy a plane ticket. Stupid Americans will pay for it.

"Every person ... visiting the United States and the U.S. Territories would receive a United States National Health Insurance Card and ID number once..."

This is yet another scam perpetrated on the lower-middle American working class. Can you imagine what would happen if an American citizen tried to 'cut in line' to get emergency medical care at a facility already overflowing with illegal aliens?

I am from Michigan and I am deeply ashamed that a psychotic nut-case like Conyers gets to be reelected in Michigan's highly corrupt voting process [there is a scam at Michigan polling places where Republican votes are automatically discarded - anyone want to hear about this let me know...]

Conyers has been on the forefront of black "reparations" and has been part of efforts to create a national record of working American "White people" who would be identified and have their taxes increased so that moneys would flow into the pockets of rich Black lawyers (even websites about the Black reparations movement have indicated that reparations money would go to pay hefty lawyers' "fees" before being handed out to poor blacks).

Conyers also get reelected by a large majority of pro-terrorist Arab citizens in Detroit (many of them illegal and on welfare) who support terrorist organizations like Hamas.

Conyers is one of the worst enemies this country has.

This healthcare idea will not work. I will have to start contacting those people who are proposing it. I am originally from Canada and can tell you their system does not work. Most people in the United States that I have spoken to believe it is free. Guess what you pay for it through the nose. Inocme tax is a lot higher up there than it is here. You pay a provincial and federal sales tax on most items and in the province of Ontario the combination was 15%. Items such as alcohol, cigarettes and gasoline are highly taxed as well. I am better off here as I pay less for my healthcare plan in a year than I paid in taxes up there. The other thing is that you have to wait for months to go see a specialist in most areas of Ontario and here I can see one in a matter of days. Many doctors leave Canada and come work here as they make better money and are not told how many surgeries they can perform in one year. An example would be a orthopaedic surgeon is told he can only perform 300 knee replacements. They also do not allow private hospitals or clinics with the exception of cosmetic surgery and abortions which you pay for.
There are long waiting times in the emergency department as there is a huge doctor shortage ( as they are coming to the U.S.). Many people don't have a primary care physician and therefore use the emergency department. There are easily 8 hour wait if not longer on a regular basis. There was such a shortage of Emergency Room Doctors that they were actually going to shut down one emergency department in one of the two hospitals in town about 2 weeks ago. They need 22 doctors to function safely but had only 12 between both hospitals.
I don't think anyone in their right mind would want this here.
Britian has also had many problems with there healthcare system as well.

I don't understand how some people always think these entitlement programs are "free." Do they really think that someone just drops money out of the sky for them? They are funded by TAX DOLLARS! Nothing is "free." Sheesh!

I read that over 200 million people visit the US every year.........can you imagine what a nightmare this would be. If S Korean woman can come over here just to have their baby, then they can all come for the expensive procedures. It would cost trillions of dollars. It wouldn't be a National health plan......it would be a WORLD health plan.

You got it. The globalists answer to "disparity" in health care. Watch for this. It supposes that those who develop a good system are somehow obliged to allow everyone to share in that system. Of course, that system eventually supplies no care to anyone, but then it is "fair."
