    Close. But the year I was looking for is 1985 when John Cougar Mellencamp came out with his Scarecrow album. Which I still have. However I thought of the song after reading Carrie92121 post "Are we Loosing". And the best answer I could think of was "You have to stand for something or you'll stand for anything. Thank you for your reply. :P

    Mellencamp was one of my son's favorites, when he was still John Cougar but I didn't remember hearing that song, played at a gazillion decibels.

    The name of the song's the same but the lyrics are different and I was remembering Aaron Tippin's song from the time of the Gulf War. Guess I'm a little bit more country than rock 'n' roll.
