New York Times op-ed says racism behind GOP attacks on Obama

    Joe Newby
    Spokane Conservative Examiner
    January 5, 2012

Andrew Rosenthal of the New York Times pushed the now well-worn and utterly false notion that racism is behind all GOP opposition to President Obama in a January 3 op-ed.

"Talking about race in American politics is uncomfortable and awkward. But it has to be said: There has been a racist undertone to many of the Republican attacks leveled against President Obama for the last three years, and in this dawning presidential campaign," he wrote.

Gee, like that's never been said in the last three years.

According to Rosenthal, GOP resistance to things like higher taxes, nationalized health care and dictatorial executive actions designed to usurp the Constitution is all based in racism.

    Of course.

He cites Rep. Joe Wilson's "you lie" comment as an obvious example.

Naturally, it never occurs to Rosenthal that the real reason Wilson shouted "you lie" is because the President was lying. And it wouldn't matter if he was purple with orange stripes. As it turned out, Obama was lying about illegal immigrants getting covered by the bill.

Apparently, it's racist to point that out, in Rosenthal's view.

Then he cites Speaker Boehner's rejection of Obama's request to speak before a joint session of Congress, adding that it was "the first such denial in the history of our republic."

If that doesn't prove racism, nothing will!

Of course, Rosenthal conveniently forgets to add that Obama failed to follow the rules - as he often does - and he also failed to mention that Obama did get his speech, just not on the short notice that he demanded.

His entire article is filled with similar straw men, but this is the kind of nonsense liberals have been pumping out since Obama became President.

Any disagreement with Barack Obama has to be rooted in racism, they tell us nearly every day.

It got so ridiculous that one Tea Party leader coined a term for media types like Rosenthal: racers.

In April, Tea Party activist Tony Katz told MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, "...let's talk about the racers, the people who believe that everything is a conspiracy about race."

"It's Obama’s race that people want to see the birth certificate. It's Obama’s race that people don't like the out of control spending. It's not his race. It's that he's awful. The policies are terrible. ObamaCare is a lie and a failure. QE1 and QE2 didn't work. It's crazy."

Of course, racers like Rosenthal never explain how it is that Obama got elected by such a wide margin by such a racist population.

Does racism exist? Of course, and it's ugly. But it's ridiculous, silly and stupid to suggest that all opposition to Obama is racist. And that is what Rosenthal is doing.

The truth is - and Rosenthal has to know this, deep down - is that Republicans object to Obama's policies and dictatorial demands.

But it's easier for Rosenthal to simply accuse critics of racism.

After all, it requires absolutely no thought whatsoever.

Interesting how Obama sat in a church for 20 years listening to Pastor Wright spread hate towards white people (racism) and nothing was said about that by the left and in fact they elected him president of the United States. Hypocrites!
