NOT TODAY KIDS: Students at Maryland High School Attempt Walkout – School Locks Them in

    Jim Hoft Nov 18th, 2016 1:11 pm

Students at Dr. Henry A Wise, Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland attempted a walkout protest on Friday.

    They didn’t get too far.

    The school locked them in.

They were upset with the election of Donald Trump.. and it was Friday… and they wanted to skip school.

According to Jack Posobiec, the school enforced the truancy law.

    Sorry kids.

    Back to class.

They should of locked them in on day 1.

Protest on their own time, not on taxpayer's dime giving them public education

    • Welcome to Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School where

Every Student Matters, Every Moment Counts!!!

      ATTENTION: PARENTS and STUDENTS

This is to clarify our school stance regarding the mass student walkout planned for Friday, November 18, 2016.
      • We will not be having a student walkout on Friday, November 18th. Our number one priority is maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
      • Wise will protest by wearing blue jeans (no skin) and a red, white, or blue shirt. (This expression was developed by the students and has been shared by them via Twitter.)
      • Any students leaving the school campus will be charged with school disruption.
      • Any classes missed will be unexcused.
      • Students will be given an opportunity to share their views during all lunches tomorrow.
      • Future opportunities will be available for student-led discussions.

This demonstration is not organized by Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS). Please see Parent Walkout Letter from our CEO, Dr. Kevin M. Maxwell.

    Dear Parents and Guardians:

It has come to our attention that a mass student walkout is planned for Friday, November 18.This demonstration is not organized by Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).

All students enjoy meaningful freedom of speech, press, assembly and religion, as stated in our Students Rights & Responsibilities Handbook. Many students have expressed strong feelings on both sides of the political spectrum over the recent presidential election. We have encouraged faculty and staff to guide students towards safe outlets of expression that do not disrupt the school day. PGCPS officials have been in contact with several local organizations about facilitating a youth-led conversation in the coming weeks for the broader community.

We take no position on the spirit or intent of the walkout; however, the event does raise serious student safety concerns. Leaving school grounds unaccompanied may cause harm to students’ personal well-being. Please note that students who are absent from class due to the walkout will be marked unexcused.

Parents, please assist us in ensuring that students follow PGCPS rules and procedures. Talk to your child about any concerns over the election and the unintended consequences of their actions. Please encourage them to seek safe, respectful outlets for expression. Our schools will continue to be places of learning where all students feel welcome, safe and valued.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,Kevin M. Maxwell, Ph.D.Chief Executive Officer

Just supply (at faculty expense) some playdough and a crying room like I read one college was doing for their students. Of course the playdough can only be used before school, between classes, during lunch, and after school. No playdough modeling on the taxpayers dime! Crying towels could also be provided by school staff.

It makes you wonder if changing the voting age to 18 was a mistake, too young, too immature? It was changed based on draft age during Vietnam War. Since there is no draft now, the whole premise for it no longer exists.

I've heard the human brain doesn't mature until age 23. I'm not suggesting that as a voting age. Just pointing it out.
