The Fair Tax bothers me. I worry about no jobs. The rich, elitist, and established will do fine but the middle class and lower class will not be able to find a job.

The drug cartels and lawbreakers will have the jobs or money to pay the sales taxes.

If no job no refund isn't this how it will work.

Another fact that surfaces is will our government keep spending thinking that the American citizens have jobs. But they DON'T

I can only imagine how the non-rich or non-criminal will survive under the Fair Tax.

I had several individual trying to explain to me the Fair Taxing greatness at my last Tea Party. I asked about the truly needy.

One Social Security Earner states: "Oh, the wealthy will contribute to the Christian Out Reach on the corner, maybe, if they want to give their money there."

I read about the pros and cons many years ago; and I am surprised that no one can tell me why we shouldn't go with the Fair Tax Doctrine.

We already have fair taxing: tobacco tax, gas tax, 911 fees, cable tv, add on fees, and etc. Don't we already have Fair Tax. But the rich or business owner get all these charges off on their taxes. And the non-business or wage earners do not get anything extra off on their taxes in comparison to the capital builders the rich and business owners.

THERE WILL BE NO CONCERN FOR AMERICANS TO HAVE JOBS, JUST SHOP AND SPEND SO THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE MAKING MONEY!

I totally welcome to be proven wrong I love change, too. But let's do it right for Americans, please.

    Sent from NumbersUSA.

I adore Senator Sessions and commend him for his unwillingness to compromise his positions. That said, nothing short of Janet Napolitano being fired will satisfy me. She was woefully in over her head in the first place---like many of the clowns in this Administration. Unfortunately, the bar of expectations for key appointments seems to have been set so low, we're probably stuck with her.

Frankly, I consider Napolitano's faulty judgment and incompetence a danger to our country. If I have to see that "deer in the headlights" look on her face one more time, I think I'll scream. Her contempt for her fellow Americans as evidenced by the DHS document was the last straw for me.

Okay vmonkey56, let me have a shot at explaining why FairTax is absolutely the best single thing we can do economically. Yes we need to also protect our trade and cut spending, but this is how FairTax helps all Americans, not just the rich. It especially helps the poor and middle class.

Lets take the average household income of the US at $48k, family of 4, 2 working adults, 2 kids. I'm going to round it to $50,000 for easier calculations:

A family of four that earns $50,000 in wages pays 7.65% in social security tax and approximately 15% in federal income tax. This amounts to $3,825 in social security savings and assuming adjusted gross income of $40,000 another $6,000 in federal income tax. This family no longer pays the $3,825 in social security taxes or the $6,000 in federal income tax, so they take home $9,825 a year more in expendable income under the FairTax. In addition, they will receive the Rebate if they want it in the amount of $6,440 per year. The combined new expendable income for this family of 4 is $9,825 + $6,440 or $16,265 a year. Add in the savings on filing tax returns of $175 a year and this family is now enriched by $16,440 a year by the FairTax. That’s over $16,000 more on an estimated previous take home of $40,000 (after tax) or a 40% increase in the typical family’s net expendable income.

I also figured it up recently for a family earning $70,000.

Social Security and MediCare 8% (I rounded) $5,600 a year off the top to Feds.

    Adjusted gross income for federal income tax: $50,000 x 20% = $10,000.

Net purchasing power after federal tax under present system = $54,400.

    Net purchasing power under FairTax = $70,000 + $6,440 FairTax Rebate for family of 4 = $76,440.

The FairTax increases the purchasing power of a middle class family that earns $70,000 a year and has 2 adults and 2 children by the difference between $76,440 a year under the FairTax and $54,400 a year under the present mandated income tax system.

That's an increase of purchasing power every year in the amount of $22,040, without a raise, with no increase cost to business, with no increase in government spending, and no increase in the national debt, public debt, or personal debt.

The Rebates require a simple form once a year listing the names and social security numbers of the adults and children in the household. It is optional for those who don’t want to fill out the form but is available to all US citizens and Legal Residents who want it without prejudice. The Social Security Administration handles the annual applications and also sends out the Rebates which are sent in the form of direct deposits into bank accounts once a month or put on a Smart Card.

Also, of course Americans will have more jobs under the FairTax, because the FairTax eliminates corporate income tax, capital gains tax, dividend tax, interest tax, gift tax, estate tax and payroll taxes. With the elimination of corporate income, capital gains taxes, dividend and interest taxes and payroll taxes, all our companies have over 40 to 50% more of their profit to invest in new projects, new technologies, new plant and equipment, more advertising, new jobs, raises, benefits, dividends and retirement plans.

If we pass the FairTax and stop illegal immigration, then Americans will be very much better off. When just changing the way you collect tax can increase expendable income and purchasing power by $16,000 to $22,000 a year for couples earning $50,000 and $70,000 a year, this is great for them. I can figure it up for lower or higher incomes for anyone who would like me to.

No, we do not have FairTaxing now, we have "excise taxes" which are totally and completely unfair. They are under separate laws than the IRC which is being eliminated by the FairTax. But after the FairTax passes, I believe these "excise taxes" will and should be eliminated as well.

As for the truly needy, they will continue to receive all the public assistance they receive now plus the Rebate. If they are on Social Security, they no longer pay income tax on their SS benefits. If they have a little savings or a few stocks, they no longer pay interest tax on their interest or dividend tax on their stock dividends. They no longer have to spend on filing a tax return. A retired couple would receive $199 a month in Rebate per person or almost $400 a month in FairTax Rebates or almost $4,800 a year in addition to all their tax savings plus all their other assistance, food stamps or MediCare benefits, or subsidized housing or utility assistance. FairTax doesn't take away any benefit from anyone who is truly needy and now receiving assistance ... it gives them all the money they earn plus whatever else they are entitled to receive, income-tax free.

This in turn increases the expendable income of everyone which means they can a) spend and buy products they couldn't buy before b) save for college or retirement that they could save for before c) buy health insurance they couldn't afford before d) invest, buy a home, buy some stock, start a 401K, etc. e) take a vacation f) eat out g) enjoy life h) give to a charity, i) etc., etc., etc.

No, the FairTax doesn't encourage spending, it increases incomes, but it actually encourages saving and investing. Americans will do all three, they will spend on new products and services and pay FairTaxes on those, they will also save which has no FairTax or invest which also has no FairTax. Whatever Americans decide to do with their new expendable income, spend, save, invest or some combination thereof will be great for our country because we need all three.

Finally, no business will pay any FairTax. They are exempt. All their revenue will be spent on the business and for the business or distributed to shareholders or owners who then spend it on taxable items. The more someone makes, the more they will spend or save or invest or some combination of all three.

Many of our companies that have fled to other countries will come home and those thinking of leaving will have second thoughts.

We still need to restore protected trade policies but making sure Americans go home with all their earnings, gains, interest, incomes, dividends and then decide what is best for them to do with their money is the best way to jump-start our economy and keep it soaring and that is what the FairTax does.

The excessive government spending will reduce because people will have all their money they worked for under the FairTax, instead of working, forking a large piece over to the government, and then being a position where they can't pay their bills or buy food or health insurance so then sign up for a program to get it back through welfare is insane! Just let the people and our companies keep the money they work for and then when all the work is done and a new finished product or service is ready for the consumer, tax it 1 time at 1 rate and be done with it.

Used homes and cars and other used products are tax exempt so people who want to buy a second occupant home won't pay FairTax on their house or if they want to buy a used car or furniture or equipment or clothes they pay no FairTax on those either. So for most middle income and lower income Americans they will pay less tax than they do now, plus have much higher incomes, so the standard of living will improve for everyone, plus wages will increase as time goes along and good jobs will plentiful once again because people have the money they worked for to invest in themselves and America because they are no longer robbed of their wages and earnings by the government.

And as we succeed in stopping illegal immigration, wages will rise again, and when we protect our trade, even more of the good jobs we've lost will return home where they belong and with the combination of FairTax, legal immigration and protected trade, our country can be the American Dream most Americans have dreamed about for generations.

vmonkey56, the existing mandated tax code is pure evil. It is 77,000 pages of nonsense that no one knows, no one understands, that costs Americans $265 Billion a year in compliance costs, that cost our corporations and employers billions more a year in lost productivity just keeping up with tax laws, filings and reports, that has become a wedge between the people of the United States and their government and economy, because business and the government have teamed up against the people to manipulate us to rob us of our wealth and power. The existing system needs to go straight to trash dump where the FairTax legislation dumps it. HB 25 in the US House of Representatives, 10 simple pages of law that will improve the destiny of the United States and the American People, the day is passes and is signed into law. Help us pass the FairTax.

I was positively appalled when I read about her speaking beofre a gathering of the pro-illegal crowd.

And ALL of the biggies were there....ADL, SPLC, NCLR.

She is supposed to be upholding the laws of this country and protecting it's borders, yet where is she? Hobnobbing with every last anti-American, reconquista, organization under the sun and I'd really like to know just WHAT her speech entailed.

So far, her comments have been very conveniently left out of the articles I've read.

Judy Immigration first, and there is many unknowns that can harm America more within the Fair Tax Issue.

I read parts of your post several times, and trust is not big on my plate right now for Big Business needs.

There will not be jobs, it will get worse than now!

How will the government control illegal immigrants flowing into the country and taking the jobs American Citizens needs? What about the individual who cannot find a job? No unemployment is left, is this person going to get money, too?

Immigration, borders, and jobs first and maybe then a look at FAIR TAXING.

Inflation is going to kill the middle-class. So we will have the rich and poor.

    ~sigh~.....

What next? Lord, we need to be praying for this nation and pray this woman leaves or gets fired from her position. We REALLY need anyone of faith to pray hard for this nation. Speaking up to our elected officials and openly in public debates, but PRAY hard for this nation. This administration is showing it could be the end of almost all good and normal ways in this nation.

No, it is not terrorism, it is now "man made disasters", now patriotic Americans with conservative values are the extremists and potentially the terrorists....

The pressure is building from Republicans for her to resign, and after that ridiculous Canadian border faux pas, she should be slithering away in shame. I can dream, can't I?

Well, here's where we are now:

    1. U.S. jobless claims rise, home sales fall
    Thu Apr 23, 2009 7:34pm BST

    2. GM to temporarily shut 13 plants, cut production
    49 minutes ago

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art ... gD97OBIHO0

    3. The FairTax creates jobs because it diverts the mandatory taxes on income and earnings back into the economy until AFTER the work and production is finished and a sale actually made of a new product or service at the retail level, and then after all the bills of our economy have been paid, workers have been rewarded, their lives sustained with their earnings, THEN the federal government gets its piece of the pie to pay for services it provides. The amount of tax revenue the government receives under the FairTax is the same as it receives now because at the 23% rate, it's revenue neutral, but instead of siphoning if off the top through payroll taxes and income and other income and earnings related taxes, the money flows through the economy, multiplying as it does and in the course creating jobs and then the government gets its money at the end of a completed economic production cycle, instead of before the work is done.

    4. The government will have the same amount of money to pay for all its programs that it pays for now. But there will be less spent on entitlement programs because fewer people will qualify because under the FairTax fewer people will need the help and assistance, they'll be going home with all their earnings and sustaining themselves as they should. For those who can't, don't or won't, the same programs fund them as fund them now. FairTax doesn't change any program or cut any money from their budgets, over time there will be less need from some of them and surely Congress will reduce the spending according to the reduction in need, but until then, all spending stays the same it would have otherwise. The FairTax changes the way tax revenue is collected, it doesn't change government spending in anyway, that's a totally separate process called appropriations.

    5. Yes, even the unemployed and those on welfare receive the FairTax Rebate if they want it and sign up for it. They must be a US citizen or legal resident. Illegal aliens, however, are not eligible for the FairTax Rebate but while they're here they will be paying FairTaxes same as everyone on their purchases of new products and services but without any Rebate.

    6. The FairTax rate of 23% is divided by law in the legislation between 14.91% for general revenue and 8.09% for social security and medicare. Everyone still earns their same social security and medicare benefits. Their employers still submit the monthly earnings reports to SSA so workers get credit for their work towards their social security retirement, but the FairTax funds both programs, Social Security and MediCare in full 100%.
