Pro-illegals set their sites on raids, not amnesty.

Today on Telemundo's national news, a political analyst spoke with the news anchor about the possibility of passing a bill that legalizes the 12 million or so illegal aliens. The analyst bluntly said that a legalization plan is out of the question with the current economic environment. He made an effort to tamp down expectations that a legalization plan will pass during Obama's first two years as president.

Still, the analyst said that there is hope that Obama will eliminate worksite enforcement raids and that Janet Napolitano will lay off enforcing the E-verify program. Those two issues are were the pro-illegal alien activists are focusing their efforts. In fact, religous groups from Chicago are planning to protest against immigration raids in Washington D.C. on December 4.

Lets all focus our efforts in support of E-verify and worksite enforcement. Amnesty has no real chance of passing, the pro-illegals know it, so lets fight in support of something that has a real chance of being eliminated.

True.... if enough Senators will agree to not cut off debate on any Amnesty legislation. Given the contentiousness of the issue I think that is a good possibility. I have been forwading offficial US news releases of immigration crimes to my Congressional delegates since this doesn't take much time. With the experience on this board we should get wind of impending legislation. But I will still send the reports and news stories--especially if I can get some mass emailing list.

To do what you are proposing perhaps we should work on Napolitano, and of course, Obama himself, since he willl actually make the executive decisions. I think it would be good to point out that when worksite enforcement takes place it ususally exposes other crime rings as well. The AgriProcessors raid showed that---those guys are getting charged with multitudinous violations. Other raids have exposed fraudulent document enterprises, tax cheating schemes, drug selling rings----you name it. They may be working---but the reports show that enough of them are doing a LOT of other illegal things, causing damage. Now, it is a matter of impressing that fact upon those with gushy, liberal, teary-eyed sentiments.

Good info LE. And see this from Mark Krikorian saying about how the pro-IA forces will likely try to use the Census to stop enforcement (click on below links to access links within the story):

Don't Say I Didn't Warn You [Mark Krikorian]

A little-noticed item last week on funding for the 2010 census gives clues about what's likely to happen next year regarding immigration enforcement:

The Census Bureau plans to cut spending on advertising and community outreach for the 2010 census by at least a fourth compared with the 2000 census, provoking concern among congressional overseers that historically difficult-to-count groups such as minorities and illegal immigrants will not be accurately tallied.
And why are illegal aliens difficult to count? Because the immigration "gestapo agents" [[Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez's (D-Ill.) term]] are oppressing them:

"With all the discussion of immigration reform, and the negativity in particular with respect to Latinos, there's especially going to be a lot of trepidation about filling out a government document," said Ramos, whose group sits on the Census Bureau's advisory council for the 2010 census.
    One of the responses?

In addition, for the first time the bureau will be sending bilingual Spanish-English questionnaires as well as a second mailing to households that do not respond to the first one — a measure that testing suggests can increase mail-back rates by as much as 8 percent.
Another response will almost certainly be an effort to halt immigration enforcement during the period leading up to the census, so as not to deter illegal aliens from responding — this is what hapopened in 1980 under the Carter Administration. And the Census Bureau has already called for a halt to enforcement to aid in the counting of illegals. In fact, I expect that the new administration will use the upcoming census as one of the reasons for halting enforcement starting in January 2009, so that by April 1, 2010, the illegals will feel secure enough to respond to a government survey.

Think this doesn't matter? Think again: "four states each had one fewer seat because of the presence of illegal immigrants. Indiana, Michigan, and Mississippi each lost one seat in the House, and Montana failed to gain a seat it otherwise would have gained because of the inclusion of illegal aliens in the 2000 Census."
