    Just Venting....

Monday I went for a job paying $9 an hour but located less than 2 miles away (my last job was $13 an hour including bonuses) and Tuesday they called me to tell me I was hired (this being after my being out of work since April of 2010). Yet afterward, the interviewer called to ask if I was bilingual-then sounded audibly disappointed on the phone and said my surname and birthplace made her "sure" I spoke Spanish, but then said it was OK....you know what they say about the word "assume".... Tuesday I went, gave my two forms of ID and went for the drug test, which I always pass-the paperwork said I'd hear back once they obtained the test results. Well, Friday came and it was 4:45 pm, and I hadn't heard back. I called them and left a message, and the lady had always picked up right away before. I didn't get a call back. The weekend came and went, and now it's Monday afternoon at 2:52pm est and I still haven't heard back...I just know it was because of the stupid bilingual thing.....the job ad nor the interview stressed a bilingual requirement. This really ticks me off because I spent my time and gas for a job that isn't going to be mine...not because of true international business, but because of spoiled brats who refuse to assimilate when they come to our country. I will not be satisfied until not only the illegal immigration problem is solved, but everyone here including legal residents assimilate-and if they don't want to do that, let them go back where they came from where they can be amongst their own language and culture as they wish-without wrecking mine!

About 10 years ago....living in Los Angeles County....I took a test for the county of L.A........I got a 96% on the hard test......was thrilled cause I would finally get a job with benefits and raises......got a letter that said congratulations.....and if I was bi-lingual Spanish, I could report at so-and so address......basically said you are out of luck if you are American and didn't speak FLUENT Spanish....... I know how you feel.....

Vent all you want sacredrage, you have every right to! I can relate to everything you're saying. Back in the '60's, I was assigned to a school that was predominately spanish speaking because the idiots in administration thought my name was spanish...It was German....

If neither the job ad nor the interview stressed a bilingual requirement...You should have some recourse....but, then again...would it be worth it?

This is one of the biggest drawbacks of illegal immigration especially when it is mostly from one ethnic group. Being bi-lingual wasn't an issue 20-25 years ago. I find far too many Hispanic citizens although most know English expect services in Spanish. Also their primary language of usage is Spanish. Assimilating to our language is something they don't think they should have to do. Totally different from the earlier immigrants.

In my last job the "immigrants" would speak to me in perfect english. If they didn't like what I said they would ask for an interpreter. When they didn't like what the interpreter said they would demand to talk to the boss. It was a waste of time and taxpayer money as the answers were always the same no matter who they talked to.

I understand your anger sacredage. I have a friends and relatives who can't get certain jobs because they aren't bilingual. Our country has catering too much to illegal alien scum.

Steve, when you mean sign language you mean the middle finger, right?

Well guys, I have to eat my words this time (or maybe they got scared of not hiring me after they put me through all that?)..though it was a delay, the woman called me and told me all my paperwork came back and now have the job-I start tommorrow. It only pays $9 (compared to the $13 including bonuses I made in my last job) but I'll take it and keep looking for a higher-paying job!

    Thanks for the sympathy anyway!
