Tbow009...I take it you read something about education is a human right? and you are upset about it?

well you have every right to be, when it is at our expense and they are not a U.S. citizen...it upsets me also.

My daughter will be a senior next year and wants to get a criminal justice degree at a NY State University. I just figured it will cost me about $80,000 over 4 years and that is just for School, room and board.

Well, here's my opinion on this. All schools should be taught in English. If it's a law that we have to educate all children no matter if they are citizens or not, they are welcome to go to an all English public school, which already gives the option of learning a second language in the upper grades. Is someone is here illegally, or not, and they want their child to be taught bilingually, then they should pay to send them to a separate or private school that does just that. Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill to teach kids bilingually by turning our public schools into specialty schools when we live in an English speaking country. We would save a whole of money in our school system if we did this.

After experiencing our nation's university system for a few years, there is some fertile ground for comedy in the "education is a human right" argument. In seriousness though, I would say that math, reading, and writing have been taught at unconsequential costs for thousands of years. Somehow we got through without an edict from on high.

But as I learned in my school, everyone not born before 2100 A.D. (excuse me, C.E., for Common Era) and not born in the continental U.S. has been discriminated against. By America.

Random thought: Socrates didn't have a high school degree - he went to trade school and became a stone cutter. Worse than that, he couldn't dunk. He couldn't even hit the three ball. Only in a racist, sexist, xenophobic society would we let such a loser slip through the cracks. Why oh why couldn't we have propped up an elaborate international infrastruction - built on bribes, payoffs, and cronyism - 2,500 years earlier to help underprivileged people like Socrates? Of course, the administration of a human right like education is expensive, and since you already work from January to May to pay off taxes, a little more won't hurt you. I assure you can we can help the Socrates' of the world much better from the back of our limos.

    Different

Human rights are different from social service rights...I cant stand the people saying that ANYONE from ANYWHERE has a right to our social services...

apropos, you got it right. An education is really a privilege, especially when you are not legally in this country. Just like the American citizen that showed up in Fla. for her driver licence and refused to remove her burkha for the photo. I have had some pretty ugly photos on my licenses, so perhaps I should have worn one.

I know what you mean. I have two in college and they are not qualify for many scholarship because either they are not the right color or we are suppose to be rich. I didn't know I was rich until I sent my children to college and listened to the way Obama talk. Do you know there are illegals in colleges and in university get free education still? No one wants to do anything about it. If Obama wins, things aren't going to get any better either.
