State lawsuit against immigration law could get quick review

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A second legal challenge has been filed against Oklahoma's new anti-illegal immigration bill, this time in state court.

1 of the attorneys who filed the suit Thursday in Tulsa County District Court, James C. Thomas, says the lawsuit claims House Bill 1804 violates the state constitution.

The suit seeks an immediate temporary injunction that would keep the defendants, including Governor Brad Henry, from enforcing the law.

The suit also asks for a permanent injunction to be issued following a hearing.

The case has been assigned to District Judge Jefferson Sellers, and Thomas says he anticipates that Sellers will take quick action.

A previous attempt to stop enforcement of the law failed in federal court when a judge twice dismissed a suit filed by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy.
