Myths of Illegal Immigration and Crime

If you perused the Sunday edition of The Oregonian online this week, you may have read the hysterical op-ed by former writer for the now defunct Conservative Digest and Oregonians for Immigration Reform member, Richard F. LaMountain. In LaMountain’s op-ed, he went about the tired game of myth telling that undocumented immigrants “commit more serious crime than the population at large.â€

supporting a remedy to our broken immigration system.
    1. Build the fence and secure our ports and borders.
    2. Enforce ALL current immigration laws.
    3. Charge and prosecute traitors.
    4. Expel diplomats who use consular positions to front political subversion.
    5. Determine immigration status/citizenship of all appearing before a court--No suspect can 'technically' have a fair trial and no court of law can dispense true justice without knowing the citizenship/immigration status of the accused.

There--that 'fixes' our 'broken' immigration system.

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power."
    Franklin D. Roosevelt
"Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
    Benjamin Franklin

    BS Alert!!!!

One study this year done by the Public Policy Institute of California found that U.S.-born men have incarceration rates that are 2.6 times higher than those of foreign-born men and that evidence suggests that foreign-born individuals have very low rates of criminal activity.
Without a differentiation between foreign-born persons that are LEGAL vs. ILLEGAL such a claim is utterly meaningless and adds no value to the overall debate. What went without saying (and that I will point out the obvious - even though everyone here already knows...) is that LEGAL immigrants to the US statistically have a lower - even much lower incidence of committing crimes during their naturalization process and after.... (why?) they have to behave. If they don't they risk being sent back.

Now, about IAs.... that, is a different matter altogether. Why would anyone that has skirted our laws to enter our country, and broken a set of other laws regarding, document/id fraud, work permissions, paying taxes, etc. have any greater propensity to suddenly obey any other laws???
It doesn't make sense and Americans are smart enough to figure that out.

...They even go so far as to celebrate every time Congress fails to pass any sort of remedy or solution to our broken immigration system,..
Calling something legal that was previously illegally does nothing to deter future criminal activity. That is one of the main reasons groups like FAIR, NumbersUSA, ALIPAC, OFIR, work to keep bad legislation from passing.

Granting another amnesty will do nothing to solve future illegal immigration. Moreover, it (eg. the 1986 amnesty) was an admitted huge policy failure - an admission by some of the strongest proponents of the former amnesties.

If they are SO concerned about passing meaningful 'immigration reform', why aren't they supporting efforts like the SAVE Act? There are many provisions contained within it that would help streamline and bring greater coherence and accountability to our overall 'broken' immigration system.

We don't need "immigration reform," espcially not of the "comprehensive" variety. What we need is for our existing laws and legislation to be finally enforced.
