US Senate Says NO To Border Security

The Senate rejected three border security amendments that were offered last week to H.R. 4899, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations bill. (Roll Call Vote No. 165, May 27, 2010; Roll Call Vote No. 166, May 27, 2010; Roll Call Vote No. 167, May 27, 2010). (The Washington Post, May 27, 2010). These critical amendments would have used unspent stimulus funds to provide funding and personnel to address the increasing violence and illegal immigration on the U.S.-Mexico border. Democrats managed to defeat all three measures proposed by border state senators, as they each fell short of the 60 votes required to overcome objections made against the amendments.

The first amendment (S.Amdt.4214), sponsored by Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) and cosponsored by Senators Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.), would have funded the deployment of 6,000 National Guard troops to support and secure the southern border of the United States. Arguing on behalf of his amendment, McCain stated, “Deploying the National Guard is essential to securing our U.S.-Mexico border. Families living in Arizona should not suffer from the daily threats caused by illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and human smuggling. It is the Federal government’s obligation to protect all Americans by securing the borders, and deploying 6,000 National Guard is a critical first step.â€

Too many senators have illegals working for them or have relatives that do. Then you have businesses that want to keep their slave labor and they are the ones making large campaign contributions and lobbiest for special interest groups.

So, once again, it's been shown by the US Congress that states are on their own. No problem. States have 800,000 trained and sworn police officers with all the resources they need to enforce US immigration law. It's up to the states to do it, fund it, and reap the financial rewards of having done so.

States: For every dime you spend on enforcing US immigration law, you will reap thousands of dollars of budget savings, not just on your state government level but on every public budget level in your state from municipal to county.

So, just forge ahead states, take this bull by the horns, get it arrested, detained and we promise you, we will get them deported because there won't be enough pro-illegal alien members of Congress left standing after November to stop US. Besides, just think about all those fines and civil penalties and court costs you'll be collecting and be applauded by your voters and citizens for having collected them.

That tells the story as clear as any story can be told. America, throw every single one of those Democrats who voted against this bill who are up for re-election in November out of the US Senate. And in January we'll have US another vote and get as many National Guard Troops to the borders as WE think We need to secure them.

These Democrats voted with the Republicans for the measure and against their party line. EVEN BOXER AND FEINSTEIN! Now I know here in California securing the border is a very popular issue among all voters. So, I wonder, since 60 votes were required to pass, and these things are normally decided in party caucuses...

    Baucus (D-MT)
    Bayh (D-IN)
    Boxer (D-CA)
    Feinstein (D-CA)
    Kohl (D-WI)
    Lieberman (ID-CT)
    Lincoln (D-AR)
    McCaskill (D-MO)
    Nelson (D-NE)
    Pryor (D-AR)
    Tester (D-MT)
    Udall (D-CO)
    Webb (D-VA)

    1) where those who voted yes on the Democratic side sincere votes or do you feel they were "save yer arse votes" intended to make the politician look palatable to the public while the slick politician knew how the vote would go?

    2) if these votes were sincere, or even if they were not, is it not incumbent on us all to reward good behavior by thanking them and repeating what we want them to do in the future? Politicians are crafty creatures full of an instinct to survive in office, perhaps they see the tide turning and are jumping ship?
Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

I think, but do not know, that they drew the long straw.

How many of these Dems are running for re-election this year?

Well in the senate, 33 seats are up for election every two years.
We know Reid, Specter, Boxer are three who are up for election in November. And Specter has already lost
