Issuing driver’s licenses without valid identification only allows illegal aliens to continue to hide. FSM Contributing Editor Joan Harrold Messner explains.

    Out of the Shadows

    By Joan Harrold Messner

If any newspaper you read refers to “immigrants” when, in fact, it is clearly discussing ILLEGAL ALIENS, beware, you are reading an intellectually dishonest paper. It is biased. View everything you read thereafter, every day, with a highly suspicious eye.

Why? Because “immigrants” are here legally, they have waited their turn, they follow our laws and they pay taxes. We welcome them happily. Illegal aliens, on the other hand, have crossed our borders without our consent, they have "jumped the line,” they ignore many laws because the illegal aliens do not "exist" and they do not pay taxes. Most important they have not been cleared by INS and can be pedophiles, drug dealers, drunk drivers or even killers.

If you have read this column in the past eight months you know the sole aim of the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License (CSDL) is to keep American driver’s licenses [including commercial licenses] “secure.” Of course we hope everyone entitled to a license will get one, and we are happy to say that in every state in the Union, a true, legal immigrant can get a drivers’ license.

At CSDL our definition of “secure” is that the license applicant is a legal resident of that state and he is identifiable as legally present in the country. The best single route to a secure license is a verifiable social security number, not 999-99-9999, a number reportedly used by half a million people in the U.S.

The pre-eminent reason for a secure license is that it is the best anti-terrorism insurance we have. The fifty U.S. driver’s licenses held by the murderers of 3000 of your friends, neighbors and countrymen, fraudulently obtained, were their internal passports. These licenses permitted the killers to board planes, rent cars, establish bank accounts, take flying lessons and rent accommodations. We at CSDL want all states to use stringent identification standards before issuing licenses.

Only people who are out to stick it to the American taxpayer would be against secure licenses; these factions include the ACLU (which in my opinion should be called the AACLU for Anti-American Civil Liberties Union), as well as some agricultural producers, construction companies, restaurants and hotels who want a continuous supply of cheap labor. They are interested only in their own profits, even at the cost of the next guy’s safety.

Illegal aliens should NOT have licenses. We do not know who they are; we cannot check their criminal records; we do not know and cannot insure that they are not terrorists; we do not know and cannot verify whether they are pedophiles or drug dealers. Don’t forget that when we issue a person a driver’s license, we are licensing him to buy guns too.

It is impossible to cross-check the identity of an illegal alien because there is nothing against which to check it. Someone in politics said recently that giving licenses to unidentifiable people would “bring them out of the shadows.” On the contrary, issuing licenses to illegal aliens keep them in the shadows with the immense power of an American driver’s license and no identifiable person behind it. They don’t have to buy auto insurance, pay taxes, or even obey our laws because they, the aliens, do not exist except on their licenses.

Moreover, identity clearance for a driver’s license cuts down identity theft exponentially. If only one person can use a social security number, the moment that number appears at two locations or for duplicate uses the genuine citizen can be alerted to possible fraud.

Some will say privacy laws prohibit the Social Security Administration or the IRS from contacting the rightful holder of the s.s. # -- that is easily dealt with. One idea is on the social security application and on the tax forms there can be a box labeled: “CHECK HERE IF YOU WISH TO BE CONTACTED IF WE SUSPECT SOMEONE ELSE IS USING YOUR S.S.#.[X] .”Anybody can opt out. There must be a dozen other ways to solve the problem.

A verified social security number identifies criminals, drunk drivers, deadbeat dads and under-age drivers.

    A secure driving license is a no-brainer.

Just because you're used to something doesn't make it right.
