Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, here announcing his plans to leave office this month, is planning to implement Secure Communities, sources tell the Associated Press.
The controversial Secure Communities program may be coming to Colorado.
Outgoing Gov. Bill Ritter, who is leaving office Jan. 11, is reportedly ready to have the state participate in the federal program. The Associated Press is reporting that Colorado may implement the controversial plan, with modifications, on Tuesday.
It wasn't immediately known what the modifications to the program would be.
The AP's sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak before the announcement.
Ritter's spokesperson could not be reached for comment by the AP.
Secure Communities uses fingerprints to check a person's immigration status during jail bookings. The program is in place in 35 states.
Some 47,000 people have been deported from October 2008 to July 2010, according to federal statistics.
Immigrant advocacy groups worry the program will lead to racial profiling.
Based on reporting by the Associated Press.

Profiling?????
When your stopped while driving by a police officer he askes for documentation...drivers license and ID. Its not profiling its called required verification. immigration activists are scared that police will find alot of illegals who have no documentation or false ID. Linking with the biometric system is only a step in the right direction. States need to give local Law Enforcement the right to stop and check ID on anyone they deep as a potential criminal. Illegals are criminals for being here illegally. Schools need to report ALL undocumented students and they need to be removed until such time it is proven they are here legally. Working hand in hand with border patrol/ICE, Local Law Enforcement can make great progress by removing illegals already here inside or borders.

April is correct about Governor Ritter. Don't be fooled by this guy! He is a staunch supporter of the Anchor Baby Birthright Law.
If he says, "minor modifications" you can bet he will water it down to the point where it won't be a useful tool for law enforcement to utilize.
"Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter, here announcing his plans to leave office this month" is a bunch of bullcrap.
The only reason this bozo is "leaving office" is because he got voted out!
