Geldof:Bush has done most for Africa

You can bet if Geldof (third tier rocker) and Bono are praising Bush, he is on the WRONG side!!! - Scarecrow

Geldof: Bush has done most for Africa

NEW YORK, June 19 (UPI) -- Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof says President George W. Bush has done more for Africa than any other U.S. president.

In an interview with Time magazine, Geldof said he recently defended Bush in France on that score.

"They refuse to accept, because of their political ideology, that he has actually done more than any American president for Africa," said Geldof. "But it's empirically so."

U2 singer Bono, who also participated in the interview, said Bush could still show more commitment to Africa.

"He feels he's already doubled and tripled aid to Africa, which he has," said Bono. "But he started from far too low a place. He can stand there and say he paid at the office already. He shouldn't, because he'll be left out of the history books."

Bono acknowledged that Bush is limited by the expense of war and growing U.S. debt.

"But I have a hunch that he will step forward with something," said the Irish rocker.

Geldof, Bono and screenwriter Richard Curtis are the main organizers behind the upcoming Live 8, a series of free concerts scheduled for July 2. A show in London will feature Pink Floyd reunion on a bill with U2, Coldplay, Madonna and Paul McCartney.

Live 8 is intended to build public support for debt forgiveness and other aid for Africa by the world's major economic powers.

I had to know how much Bush is pledging at allegedly taxpayer expense because even though he's rich as well as his family, we couldn't expect a huge personal contribution from him or his closest family members, now could we, even though he's robbing American citizens left and right with the war on Iraq, refusal to deal with unsecured borders, etc., etc.

Well, after reading this article I did a quick search and came up with a British news links that mentions a pledge of around $15 billion from Bush. Excuse me, but isn't the USA a trillion some dollars in debt? Isn't our country going down the tubes and likely to become a third world nation because of massive immigration (both legal and illegal), free trade agreements, insourcing and outsoursing of American jobs to foreign nationals that hurt our poor and middle class citizens?

Not that I disagree with foreign aid? Many countries around the world are much worse off than us (but we are becoming the same). The USA has been very generous for a very long time, in giving financial aid to citizens of poor countries both to those who stay in their countries and to those who immigrate here legally and illegally.

Our country's elected officials just may need to start focusing more on financial aid to "poor" and "becoming poor" US citizens before long or they will find their wages in jeopardy because there won't be too many Americans left who can afford the taxes that pay their high salaries. (Note: the super rich are not included in my estimate because I hear they receive all types of tax cuts and evasions and don't pay nearly the taxes the lower and middle classes do if you base it on a percentage of their annual incomes).

The problem with foreign aid is that the countries receiving it never seem to get off of it. They are always "developing." I would like to know, when are they going to actually "develop." Is "developing" a permanent condition from which some countries are incapable of escaping? Does that mean that because we are "developed" we have to continually pour money into the "developing" countries? The logic escapes me. It is certainly OK to help those in need, but much of this money goes for arms, into the coffers of petty tyrants and other uses the givers never imagined.

The other problem is that most of these countries turn around and denounce us in the U.N. and other places in the most virulent terms! They harbor terrorists, they undercut U.S. interests. We need a loyalty test before one dime goes anywhere outside this country. If your country opposes U.S. interests, you don't get a dime, period. Is that a hard concept to grasp? It must be to the Bush administration and many preceding ones. They love giving our money away to the ungrateful, the corrupt, the vicious and the profligate. Just another example of big government run amuck, confiscating our money and pouring down rat holes. Thank you very much, federal government.

Now I know Bush is giving $15 billion in US taxpayer dollars to Africa.

Didn't I just read the other day that we're also forgiving another $40 billion in "loans" as well?

So my question is how much is enough? $100 billion? $100 trillion?

    Is any amount enough?

Somehow, I doubt it. But Bush will try, nonetheless.

The Bush admin likes this crap because it sounds good on the evening news. We are fools in this country for giving away our wealth to ungrateful and undeserving countries which will NEVER be any better than they are now. They have had thousands of years to develop and they are incapable of it. This country developed to where it is in just over two hundred years. Why, because we worked our asses off. It ain't happening in Africa and South America.

When will we see the idiocy in policies like this? Answer, probably never.

The irony of this, which is apparently completely lost on Bush, is that no matter how much he caters to them, the left still hates his guts.

Meanwhile, he's driving away his one-time supporters in droves.

Lucky for him he's surrounded by yes men and women, or else he might become concerned about his falling public support.

You nailed it, Count. I was one of those misguided Bush supporters until I realiezed he was in the pockets of the globalists and the pro-illegal immigration lobby. Just goes to show how wrong you can be.
