How about tires, old heavy tractor and semi tires. Line em up, flat, rows and rows deep, let nature inhabit, snakes, scorpions, etc. make them have to walk through the tires. That will slow them down, and it's a nice way of finding a good useful outlet for used tires. Like a Tire Moat.
