There are proponents and opponents of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (which amounts to amnesty) who only see one dimension of the equation. Instead of there being just the spectrum between deportation for all and amnesty for all there are proportions. There is also a context of family reunification and family finances. You might think of this like a plus sign with amnesty on the left and total deportation on the right. There is also the border which runs horizontally with options above or below the line. Instead of thinking only of the negative impact and solutions north of the line it is also possible to reunite families and improve their financial condition south of the border. The more that conditions can be improved by family financial planning the less the temptation to remain in the United States or enter it to compete against citizens and legal immigrants. The fewer people there are seeking conditional amnesty the more likely some are to get it.

Recently there was a meeting of Republicans at Pietanza which featured several prominent party leaders. There was one thing noticed by Progressives for Immigration Reform. While Jeb Bush favors there being more and most of the illegal aliens remaining in the United States Mitt Romney favors most of them leaving. Both of them however have relatively close relatives who are Mexican and are living in Mexico. There has been little in the press that either of them are creating jobs or increasing income there to encourage more of the members of those communities Leon, Guanajuato and Paquime, Chihuahua to remain where they are. Looking at Bush's wikipedia entry we notice that at one point he was the owner of a company in Miami exporting shoes to Panama. Shoes and leather goods is coincidentally the largest industry in Leon, his wife's hometown. We would like to take this Cinco de Mayo to challenge them to either state what they have done or to get active in order to encourage other Americans with family in Mexico to do the same thing.
