Executive Order Raises Importance of E-Verify - Union Labor
GOP.com reports that Obama signed an executive order last Friday which requires the use of union labor for federal construction projects.
The stimulus money will probably be distributed to states via block grants. This makes it more important than ever to extend E-Verify to the states.
The Republican National Committee is for getting "best value." IMO that's short term thinking. Yes we can save money by using non-union labor, but long term we'll pay a lot more in broken families and incarceration of the unemployed for minor drug offenses.
Here's a link to the Republican National Committee's news release: http://www.gop.com/News/NewsRead.aspx?G ... ab872fab6e
Any thoughts?

Do the Unions require citizenship in the United States? E-Verify everyone that is working in America. The International Workers Union are they required to E-Verify by law, yet?

Vmonkey some do some do not.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

This is an actual job posting I found on Monster.com!
Looks as if our government is now actively in the business of recruiting union workers. I suspect this is political payback for the 80 million the labor unions contributed to Obama's campaign to help get him elected.
Apparently, you do not have to speak English to join a union.

NoBueno, that's precisely why I included the importance of E-Verify.
After the stimulus bill was passed, I received e-mails from Senate and House reps to the effect that the bill was stripped of everything that didn't pertain to recovery. If we don't continue to pressure these people, there's not a doubt in my mind that the omnibus bill now being debated in the House will also see E-Verify stripped. The reason given by elected representatives will be that they couldn't bear the thought of people not being able to work

Dixie, does this mean that you also oppose things such as the United States Chamber of Commerce and the National Small Business Association?
What do you say we level the playing field. Unions are as much about the dignity of labor as they are about wages and benefits. (I've done piece work in a factory, BTW.)
In the context of E-Verify, knowing who can be held responsible for verifying citizenship is a distinct advantage for American workers.

At a union meeting I attended it was asked from the floor if our union at least checked the immigration status of 'new recruits'. The question was declared 'out of order' and the topic never to be allowed for discussion.
I rarely attend meetings now due to that fact. I loved my Union for so long it broke my heart when just a few years ago this position was taken.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Unions are warping their own rules. My union forbids any dual union membership. Yet we have people who have joined the NDLON (day labor union). As our union bosses pursue this new international agenda it makes my head spin. Our idea of "international" was always just the US and Canada. Why the heck should I care about what happens in Venezuela? This isn't the union I joined.
