Pokwang takes on drama in "A Mother's Story"

MANILA, Philippines – Behind her comedienne front is a mom who is a fighter. This is who Pokwang is when she is not in front of the camera.

In an interview with radio dzMM's "Mismo" on Wednesday, Pokwang revealed she fulfills her duty as a motherwhen she is not working.

"Isang palabang ina. Iyon ako. Palaban akong ina, anak at kapatid," she said.

Pokwang also admitted that she has a soft spot for children, especially those who are underprivileged.

“Umiiyak ako kapag marami akong nakikitang batang nagsu-suffer. Kapag bata madali ako [maiyak] eh. Hindi ko kinakaya ang mga eksena ng mga batang namomolestya. Ang mga bata dapat hindi pinapabayaan, [dapat] inaalagaan,” she said.

This personality of Pokwang is very much the same as the character she portrays in her launching film "A Mother’s Story."

"A Mother's Story" is The Filipino Channel’s latest movie offering to overseas Filipino workers worldwide.

The film revolves around the story a mom, played by Pokwang, who dares to make a life in the United States as an illegal immigrant in exchange for saving the life of her infant daughter.

It focuses on the everyday sacrifices that millions of Filipino parents make as they leave their families to find jobs overseas.

In an earlier report, Pokwang said she could sincerely relate to her character in the film because she would be willing to do anything just for her daughter.

"A Mother’s Story" is set to hit theaters on January 8, 2012.

It was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
