The Pope said what !?!?!
I just got an email claiming MSNBC is saying the Pope is comparing illegal aliens to black slaves in America.
Can anyone confirm if this hogwash is on the air?

LOL, we see how influental the Pope was in Italy, don't we? Berlusconi WON and he's ANTI-ILLEGAL immigration!
The pope knows absolutely nothing about the black slaves in America if he compares them to the swarm of invaders we get now.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

WASHINGTON - Pope Benedict XVI praised America as a land of opportunity and hope Thursday as he celebrated the first public Mass of his U.S. pilgrimage, but he lamented that the nation's promise fell short for blacks and Indians. Hope for the future, he said, "is very much a part of the American character."

Tens of thousands of worshippers filled Nationals Park on a clear spring day and cheered Benedict as he arrived in a white popemobile, standing in the back and waving. The crowd grew to 46,000, and the demand for tickets doubled the supply, organizers said.
The pope, wearing scarlet vestments, led the service from an altar erected in centerfield of the recently inaugurated baseball stadium. Rows of red-robed church leaders joined him.
In brilliant spring sunshine, the pope walked down from the altar to distribute Holy Communion near the end of Mass.
"Americans have always been a people of hope," he said during his homily. "Your ancestors came to this country with the experience of finding new freedom and opportunity.
"To be sure, this promise was not experienced by all the inhabitants of this land; one thinks of the injustices endured by the native American peoples and by those brought here forcibly from Africa as slaves."

I didn't watch it as I am at work but I'm sure there will be a re-airing on at some point somewhere.

I believe he was complementing America about being so willing to change and admit wrongs when they did something about changing the laws and the attitudes concerning slavery. Our ability to make this a welcoming country for all races and relegions and stuff like that....and that now we needed to continue on with that openmindedness and generosity to include how we adapt and welcome and find solutions to the illegals who came here. When we came here we altered forever what life was like for the American Indian, it changed and adapted and became more welcoming with blacks, asians, other relegions and in doing so made us a richer nation....and that now we needed to open ourselves up to the many illegals because this too would be another change for our country by embracing what they bring to mix.
Something along those lines is how I took it.
Have to admit I tuned out after that....especially since it was reported that Latinos are what's keeping the Catholic Church going here and all.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The Pope is here strictly to build up the Vatican bank account. The Catholic church is fading in the US and with all the Illegals coming here from Mexico he is hoping to revive things here. In fact, the just built a huge Co-Cathedral here in Houston. First time this has been done in decades.

I don't see anything about illegal immigration here; I believe he is talking about the Cherokees, Shawnees, Navajo, etc. and the Arican slaves. Have to say I agree with it. And I think as a country we recognize that."To be sure, this promise was not experienced by all the inhabitants of this land; one thinks of the injustices endured by the native American peoples and by those brought here forcibly from Africa as slaves."<div>"You know your country is dying when you have to make a distinction between what is moral and ethical, and what is legal." -- John De Armond</div>

04-17-2008, 01:28 PM #8That's it....America has been a nation of hope...it's what our ancestors did and the world needs us to lead again in that mission of hope...in spite of our "sins"....we changed and we must all forgive and be forgiven for wrongs done along the way and we must continue doing so.Americans have always been a people of hope," he said during his homily. "Your ancestors came to this country with the experience of finding new freedom and opportunity.
I never got the impression he thought illegal immigration was right, just that we must forgive and go on. They too are searching for renewed hope and freedom and we should forgive them and help them and that in doing so we can help lead the world......doo dah, doo-dah.
Sounds good in theory.....just never addressed the other side of the coin.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Days like this make me remember the Sinead O'Connor episode lol

Notice the absolute silence aka absence of any applause at the end?

I'm no Sinead fan, but I wonder if the Pope could address the vast scandals in the US of institutionalized child abuse in some of our US Catholic churches that have lost a lot of members.
I wonder if some of the Catholic priests see illegal immigration as a way to rebuild their church attendance after people took their families and children away from the Catholic churches?
It would be good to hear the Pope talk about these scandals and assure Americans the Catholic church has taken strong steps to protect children.
