President Calderón Meets with Mayor of Chicago, Richard M. Daley

Tuesday, February 12 | Press Release

    Chicago, Illinois

The Presidency reported that as part of his working tour of Chicago, President Felipe Calderón met with the mayor of that city, Richard M. Daley.

During the meeting, President Felipe Calderón hailed Mayor Daley's efforts to promote migrant workers' rights. He also invited him to pay a working visit to Mexico.

Mayor Daley has said he favors implementing an integral migratory reform in the United States. He was also the first mayor of a non-border city to accept the matrÃ*cula consular (consular registration) as valid identification.

For his part, Mayor Daley highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation and joint actions and programs for contributing to an environment that promotes the integration of the Mexican community in Chicago society.

During the meeting, a Letter of Intent was signed whereby a pilot program will be launched to provide recognition and certification of the working skills of many Mexicans employed in the food and restaurant industry in the state of Illinois.

This agreement highlights the importance professional groups place on Mexicans’ contribution to the community life of this state as well as the conviction that collaboration is the only way that the societies of both countries will be able to improve their living standards.

It is also proof of the fact that the government of President Calderón is working to improve the living standards of Mexicans resident in the United States.

The Letter of Intent was signed by Public Education Secretary Josefina Vázquez, President of the Illinois Restaurant Association, Sheila O’Grady and President of the Chicago School Board, James Tyree.

We need to vote him out of office. We need to get rid of Tony V in LA. Roger Moore is my choice. Even though I don't live in LA, I am going to give him money for his campaign.
