The Federal government does not print up funny money. The Federal Reserve creates money out of nothing, then gives a credit for it to the member banks. These big banks AKA primany dealers loan the money out. The money shows up in the borrowers' checking account as a credit. The borrow then spends the money. This process has been going on since the beginning of civilization. But it was hidden from most people. It's only in recent times the true nature of money, banking and credit has been made known to the common people. And it does not matter what is used. Gold, salt, rocks, grain etc. all are used in the same way.

And don't forget the great tulip bubble where the Dutch were able to create a market worth thousands selling slices of an award-winning tulip bulb. Those who do not understand the mistakes of history are bound to repeat them.
