Civil Disobedience Aims to Prevent I.C.E (Immigration and Customs
Enforcement) from Deporting Members of ou r Families and Communities

Bloomington, MN, May 6th, 2009. This morning 30 community members were
arrested while committing non-violent civil disobedience to shut down
the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) headquarters in
Bloomington and stop deportations for the day in an action initiated by
the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action coalition (MIRAc).



Today’s action is the follow through on an open letter calling on
President Obama to sign an executive order declaring a moratorium on
immigration raids and deportations within the first 100 days of his
administration. This event was preceded by several public civil
disobedience trainings, the last of which was held at the May 1st
immigra
nt rights march in Minneapolis.



This action is an escalation in response to the silence of the
administration demonstrated by th
e continuation of raids and
deportations which have torn families and communities apart resulting
in numerous human rights abuses and over 90 deaths in I.C.E. detention
centers since 2003. Over the past several years, the immigrant rights
movement has organized marches, hunger strikes, petitions, and lobbied
for change, all with the goal of ending these human rights abuses; yet
the raids and deportations have continued.



President Obama has said, "Change will not come if we wait for some
other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting
for. We are the change that we seek." Community members have decided
to take matters into their own hands to realize this message. Phillip
Lickteig, one of the dozens of community members who participated in
the action, states, "President Obama, we take you at your word. We are
non-violent because we wish, through contrast, to expose the system of
violence and fear that pervades the communities, workplaces, schools,
and homes of the undocumented and their children. We are disobedient
because the law is unjust."

no matter how you spin this Mr Espinosa you are on the wrong side of the argument.

Oh Boy some Civil Disobedience - Lock them up and use 287g Program on them all.

Hmmmm. Isn't civil disobedience against the law? Wouldn't that make the perpetrators of those acts Illegals themselves, especially if they become violent? Just a hypothetical question, of course!

I've an idea. Let's take all of those people who willfully disobey the laws and tax them! Let's up their taxes to about 65% so that they can help pay for the expenses that Illegal Aliens are costing us, including health care. Or else, we could deport them to Mexico as human resource "remittances" to the Mexican government.

If our government rolls over to threats rather than stand up to them it is truely over for our sovereignty...

These demonstrations are nothing more than "hate crimes" being committed by legal and illegal hispanics against the American white/african-american/asian/multi-culteral citizens that have LEGALLY immigrated!

DHS calls us potential domestic terrorist but the pro-illegal's are using civil disobediance, interesting??

I think it is a great strategy for the OBL to take. Let them break more laws and show their true colors. We have plenty of FEMA camps to house them while awaiting deportation or other litigation.

What I never could understand is - How can a group of people, who are not-following the laws - argue with the laws?

More Communist propaganda. They originally tore their families and communities apart when they came here illegally, and are now tearing American communities and families apart. Of course they could care less about Americans.
