In NC, the TEA party is just a group of people, not a political party. It is next to impossible to get another party on the ballot here. The Libertarians are now on the ballot because they got on 4 years ago by petition, and then received like 2% of the vote so they are allowed on the ballot again. I believe they reached the threshold percentage again in 2012 and so will be on the ballot again in 4 years, but they are the only ones who have been able to do it. I voted for their candidate in our governor's race this year just so they could be on the ballot next time (and I knew the GOP candidate was going to win).
I and many others in NC are working to reform the GOP by bringing it back to true constitutional, liberty loving, fiscally limited government conservatism, and we have had some success. Still working at it though, as frustrating as it can be sometimes! I've seen supposed "conservatives" do things that would curl your hair, all to maintain their hold on power.
