Question
I just received an email from a good friend which claims "The Senate voted this week to allow illegal aliens access to Social Security benefits"
Did I miss something here or is this just not true?
Here is the email minus the 600 + signatures
************************************************** ************************************************** ******
Mom was a homemaker and Dad worked all his life and paid into Social Security. Dad has passed away and now Mom can barely make ends meet. While the illegal alien in front of her at the grocery store buys the name brands, Mom goes for the generic brands, and day old breads. She doesn't have out of state calling on her phone, because she can't afford it and shops at the thrift shops and dollar stores. She considers having a pizza delivered once a week eating out. She grew up during the depression, watched her husband go overseas to fight in the Second World War only a year after their wedding, and then they went on to raise, feed and clothe five children...
The Senate voted this week to allow illegal aliens access to Social Security benefits. I'm sorry, but how can the Senate justify this slap in the face to born and bred, or naturalized citizens. It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If they give benefits to illegal aliens who have never contributed, where does that leave us that have paid into Social Security all our working lives?
Attached is an opportunity to sign a petition that requires citizenship for eligibility to receive social services. If you do not wish to sign the petition yourself, at least please forward it along to anyone you think might be interested.<div>They aren't undocumented workers, or immigrants. They are illegal aliens!</div>

Does this bill now go before the house? We will need a vote list to see who stabbed us in the back by STEALING from us citizens.

NumbersUSA has something about the house and social security benefits.

Are they saying they won't pay SS? Sounds like other enforcement issues are being addressed as well. Chance to pass in the senate??
(July 20) Yesterday, the House passed (276 - 140) the FY 2008 appropriations bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, which contains several immigration-related measures. The bill will now be sent to the Senate.
An amendment sponsored by Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), which was adopted by a 254-168 margin, would prohibit the use of funds appropriated the bill from being used by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to pay its employees to administer benefit payments under a totalization agreement with Mexico, which would not otherwise be payable but for such an agreement. Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) was successful in sponsoring an amendment (adopted by voice vote) limiting agencies funded under the bill from using their funds to employ illegal aliens.
As reported from committee, the bill prohibits appropriated funds from being used to enter into a contract with an entity that does not participate in the Basic Pilot program , which is used to verify the eligibility of employees to work in the United States.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
