    Questions

First of all, how serious is this "uprising" in Mexico? Do we think it is going to continue and grow?

Secondly, who is fighting who and what? Is this mainly about Calderon vs. Obrador ?

What exactly is the message of those uprising?

Is there any hope that Mexico will ever stabalize and become a better country?

As precisely as possible what effects could this or will this have in our country?

I was talking to a Mexican national the other day and he was saying that Mexico is on the verge of a revolution.
Basicly it's a fight over who is going to be in power.
What will happen here is that many Mexicans will want to flee their country for a safer place and the US is the closest and easiest to get to, so the question will be do we stop them at the border or let them in.

The US Military should have been sent to the border immediately after 9/11. I don't believe I will ever understand why our government is not protecting our borders!!!!

I do not think Mexico will ever become a stable country, nor will they ever be able to get themselves away from the corruption they are so steeped in. This corruption has seeped into every crevice of their society.

In short, I think the only thing that is keeping us from being drug down in the mud with them is that we HAVE to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws, fine employers, jail them if necessary. Giving no incentives for the illegals to come here.

As for the uprising.....these people need to finally face what they have created in their own country, so they will want change, instead of running from it, as usual.

Ya know SAILOR.....I wasn't for it then being very concerned about possible Martial Law and Posse Comitatus.

I believe I made a mistake then. Still very concerned about the above but this can actually turn into a military problem should their be an uprising in mexico.

Yes, it is likely to get worse before it gets better. Mexico is already a fairly lawless place, but fear of the often brutal and corrupt police force generally keeps the crime localized. The Obrador supporters, however, appear to believe that they have sufficient numbers that they can take their chances with the military and police.

Yes and no. It is their so-called Right against their Socialist Left. The Right more closely matches the "Right" of Europe's Fascist movement than anything that could be labelled as "Right" here in the US. It is basically a corrupt dictatorial ruling class that serves the monied elite at the expense of the average Mexican. Because of this, Marxism and Socialism have gained considerable traction among Mexico's poor and lower middle classes. This has been exacerbated by government clashes with Mexico's indigenous peoples, as in the case of the Zapatista rebellion in Chiapas. The Zapatistas are anti-globalist and anti-NAFTA, though they approach this philosophy from a more Marxist idea of the right to communal land.

The message is that the poor are tired of being abused and lorded over by a handful of megawealthy families that pretty much control everything that goes on in Mexico.

Worse places have turned things around, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

A true rebellion would be disatrous. We would likely see millions upon millions of "refugees" flood into this country over and above the current levels of immigration. Because they could probably be legitimately described as real refugees, this would give the government all the excuse it needed to formalize their status and legalize all Mexicans within our borders. There would be a substantial economic impact due to the potential shutdown of NAFTA-enabled factories and other branches of US companies operating there. Worse yet, Mexico is a major oil producer. Any significant disruption of Mexican oil production could drive petroleum prices into another upward spiral. Because of our particular reliance on Mexican oil, the US would be more hard-hit by this than by most Middle East oil flow disruptions. Worse yet, if the Marxists prevail in an uprising, we could see Mexico join the ranks of Venezuela and other South American countries in becoming actively anti-American enemies in our own hemisphere and, in this case, right on our own border.

I don't think that anyone thought that Chavez would be a Chavez, and remember that Castro was once a US media darling before becoming public enemy #1.
