They are usually White College Leftists, although it looks like they have a mulatto girl in there also. Probably Uni of Chicago or one of the other Colleges around there.

Source: Group beaten at Tinley Park restaurant were white supremacists

BY JANET LUNDQUIST AND NATASHA KORECKI Sun-Times Media May 20, 2012 7:07PM

A law enforcement source Sunday said the group beaten at a Tinley Park restaurant Saturday was made up of white supremacists, and those who assaulted them were protesters attacking their beliefs.

Police had five people in custody after the attack, which occurred at The Ashford House, 7959 W. 159th St. around noon. No charges had been filed yet, and the suspects did not appear in bond court Sunday.
Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki on Sunday said police do not know if the protesters had any connection to the NATO Summit in downtown Chicago.

He said police still have 35 to 40 people to interview, and charges could come Monday.

“The guys we have in the lockup are still not talking, at least not this morning,” Zabrocki said.

Mike Winston, who owns the restaurant, is facing $10,000 to $15,000 in damage to his business, as well as a loss of revenue as customers keep their distance.

A party of 60 people for a banquet cancelled Sunday morning, he said.
“I’m down about 80 tables this morning. People think we’re closed,” he said.

Undaunted by the violence of Saturday afternoon, his staff all showed up for work Sunday morning.

“I was very proud of them,” Winston said. “Everybody got here at five this morning, we cleaned up everything we could.”

Winston lashed out at both groups over the chaos that disrupted his weekend business.

“I have no f-ing idea who the hell these people are,” Winston said. “When they made this reservation, they were some Irish heritage whatever. We get reservations every day for parties of 20, 30, 40 — we don’t ask what their political affiliation is.”

Winston, who chased one of the attackers out of the restaurant and was attacked himself behind the building, said he hasn’t been accused of being on one side or the other.

“Bottom line is, I don’t know anything about why they came here,” Winston said. “Both groups are a bunch of a------s if you ask me.”

Winston said he was working in the kitchen the restaurant during the lunch rush when a waitress screamed that a fight had broken out in the dining room.

Tinley Park police said in a press release that approximately 15 people dressed in black walked into the restaurant about 12:45 p.m. Saturday and started a fight with a group of people eating there.
Ten people were injured, three were taken to the hospital.

When police arrived, the attackers fled in three vehicles. Police stopped one vehicle near 159th Street and Harlem Avenue. Five men, all white, were arrested.

Winston said the mob was wielding metal batons and hammers, wearing hooded jackets and obscuring their faces with scarves and other coverings.

“They came running in the door single file,” Winston said.
The attack wasn’t a random act of violence, police said. But the attack apparently spilled over to others in the restaurant.

“Once they attacked the table, they went and started hitting random people,” Winston said. “Four or five people got knocked over the head pretty good, enough to require stitches,” he said.

He chased after one of the attackers “and had him on the ground, then five guys got out of a car and started kicking the (crap) out of me,” Winston said.

Winston said he was kicked in the back of the head and suffered several bruises, but he was the only restaurant employee who was hurt.

“They did a whole lot of damage,” he said. “They flipped over tables, they broke half the dishes.”

Surveillance cameras inside the restaurant captured the attack and footage was turned over to Tinley Park police, Winston said.

Winston said that during the attack most of the men’s face coverings were torn off.

“Most of these kids were white, and they all looked like they were between 18 and 25,” he said.

“This stuff doesn’t happen in Tinley Park. We don’t have racism or white supremacy in Tinley Park,” he said. “I wish they had just stayed where they were.”

In a news release, police tried to assure residents the attack was “an isolated incident” and that “there is no immediate threat to the community.”

Tinley police said they were being assisted in the investigation by the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

I agree with the owner of the restaurant if he is refering to the political agenda of both groups.

“Bottom line is, I don’t know anything about why they came here,” Winston said. “Both groups are a bunch of a------s if you ask me.”

Agreed, but in truth, the "Irish Heritage" group was doing nothing wrong and were minding their own business. They did not deserve to be attacked. If their right to free speech/assembly are taken away, then all ours are too.

I can only imagine if it were a Black Panther or La Raza group in the restaraunt and they got the beat down from those white kids. Race war - coming right up!

One thing I noticed reading this is how organized the attackers were. As if they were,

I hope we can get our hands on a copy of this video soon.

I also hope they charge these attackers with civil rights violations. This mob attack on people because of their political views is something that all Americans are supposed to be protected against.

Here are the five that were arrested. This story is, in my opinion, very slanted toward the attackers and the reporter attempts to explain and justify their motives. Of course, Mark Potok from the SPLC is quoted as further justification.

Panic shot through the small Tinley Park restaurant as quickly as the stream of determined, black-clad assailants marched in, clubs and hammers in hand.

The wide-eyed hostess frantically dialed 911. Old men leapt from their tables and grabbed chairs to fend off the surprise attack.

Several of the masked attackers targeted the bystanders, but authorities say the majority homed in on a long table — filled with who the attackers believed were about a dozen white supremacists meeting for lunch.

Instantly batons and fists were flying, launching food, plates and chaos. In less than two minutes, the attackers headed for the doors, fighting off customers and restaurant staff into the parking lot.

Ten people were injured, at least three of them needing staples to close bloody head wounds
An unpublished restaurant security video viewed by the Tribune of the bizarre Saturday afternoon melee had no sound — but it screams with images of fear and aggression. It was an attack that spilled from Internet chat rooms to the floor of the small Ashford House restaurant, bringing to the forefront an underground and nationwide battle between violent anti-racism groups and white supremacists.

Authorities announced charges Monday against five Indiana men in the attacks and said they still sought about 13 who escaped arrest.

Those charged include three brothers, Jason W. Sutherlin, 33, Cody L. Sutherlin, 23, and Dylan J. Sutherlin, 20. Also charged were Alex R. Stuck, 22, and John S. Tucker, 26. All five live near Bloomington, Ind.

The men are connected to the Hoosier Anti-Racist Movement, which is part of the Anti-Racist Action Network that formed in Minneapolis in 1987 to address discrimination, according to a leader in the organization, Jacob Domke.

Prosecutors say authorities apprehended the men about four miles from the restaurant shortly after the melee and found dark hoodies, scarves, a knife and batons in their car. The five were being held on bail Monday and face felony counts of mob action, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

The Sutherlin brothers became interested in combating fascism while growing up in diverse family in Bloomington, a predominantly white city that is home to Indiana University, Domke said. Though they are white, their half sister's father is black, he said.

"When you grow up in a multiracial family in Indiana, I think that can open your eyes to the problem of racism in this country," Domke said.

Jason Sutherlin, the oldest of the three tightknitbrothers, shaped his social philosophies as a teen at the Bloomington's Peoples Park, a decades-old popular spot for protests. The site has been a haven for the anti-establishment movement since 1968, when two members of the local Ku Klux Klan burned a black-owned store there.

"We knew the history, but because we were growing up in a different time, we thought we'd be shielded from that kind of hate," Domke said.

That illusion was shattered for Jason Sutherlin in July 1999, Domke said, when a white supremacist named Benjamin Smith went on a deadly shooting spree in Indiana and Illinois. Smith, a Wilmette native, targeted minorities, including an Indiana University student.

"Looking back on it, that was one the defining moments in our lives," Domke said.

The Indiana group has several initiatives in the area, including raising money for hate crime victims and providing security for gay and lesbian events, Domke said. Stuck teaches English to immigrants while Jason Sutherlin and Tucker teach self-defense classes, he said.

Tucker's father, John, said his son was planning to return to college while working as a bouncer at a Bloomington bar. He said his son could get passionate about political issues, depending "on the friends he is around."

Mark Potok, an investigator with the anti-discrimination Southern Poverty Law Center, said using violence against racist organizations is not uncommon but is bad for the cause.

"This kind of thing happens far more often than people realize," Potok said. "The difference here is it doesn't happen in family restaurants."

The Saturday melee has lit up Internet sites on both sides for days. The Anti-Racist Action movement posted a note boasting of the attack.

Prosecutors said the targeted diners claimed to be part of an Illinois European heritage association that was affiliated with White News Now and Storm Front — Web sites that tout white supremacy, according to the law center.

But one victim, Beckie Williams, told the Tribune the group isn't racist, calling the accusation "ridiculous." She said they were meeting in person from across the country for the first time, having met on the Internet discussing economic hardships.

Ashford House owner Mike Winston said he would not release the video of the attack and blamed both groups for the altercation.

I wonder how many of these violent vigilantes, that ended up attacking many innocent customers in this restaurant, were inspired by the hateful rhetoric and defamation coming from Mark Potok and the Southern Poverty Law Center?

This is a more detailed article but they don't mention the innocent bystanders that were also attacked.

5 'Attackers' Appear Before County Judge, 2 'Targets' Charged Separately
By Carrie Frillman and Jesse Marx
Five Indiana men were accused of felony mob action, among other charges, during a Monday afternoon court appearance. Two men who prosecutors say were targeted in the Ashford House attack were charged separately.

Bail was set Monday for five Indiana men who stood as a group in connection with a Saturday afternoon mob-style attack in Tinley Park.

Two among those targeted in the attack, who officials say are associated with white supremacist organizations, were also charged. They appeared before a judge separately.

Dylan J. Sutherlin, 20, Cody Lee Edward Sutherlin, 23, and Alex R. Stuck, 22, all of Bloomington, Ind.; joined Jason W. Sutherlin, 33, of Gosport, Ind.; and John S. Tucker, 26, of Spencer, Ind., in front of Cook County Associate Judge Terence B. Smith. A group of about a dozen showed in court to support the suspects. Several of them collectively gasped when the highest bail amount—$250,000 for Jason Sutherlin because of his criminal background—was set.

The men, three of whom are brothers, were charged with one count each of felony mob action, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property. Bail for Cody Sutherlin was set at $200,000 and that for Dylan Sutherlin, Stuck and Tucker was set at $175,000 each.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Deno said the group was among 15 to 20 people who stormed the Ashford House restaurant on 159th Street in Tinley Park around 12:30 p.m. May 19. They were there to attack members of the Illinois European Heritage Association, whom defendants allege are associated with white supremacy forums WhiteNewsNow and StormFront, Deno said.

Assistant Public Defender David Colaris declined to comment after Monday's court appearance, as did those in the group who showed in solidarity on behalf of the five defendants. While leaving the courthouse, some yelled at reporters, some flipped off television cameras and others insisted the group of attackers that day numbered 15—not as many as 30, as others have reported.

Two men who were among those attacked were arrested, too.

Steven E. Speers, 33, of Grand Forks, N.D., was arrested that day on a warrant out of Dallas County, Texas, for possession of child pornography. Francis John Gilroy Jr., 65, of West Palm Beach, Fla., was charged with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon. Court documents indicate that Gilroy is a "transient."

Tinley Park Police Cmdr. Steve Vaccaro said the arrests were made "through information they learned" by talking with those attacked. Gilroy admitted to police that he had a loaded semiautomatic handgun in his car, according to court documents. He was convicted in 2002 of manufacturing marijuana in Lowndes County, Georgia, prosecutors said.

Assailants were "partially masked," Deno said, noting that they wore black scarves, hooded sweatshirts and other facial coverings while attacking the group of diners who sources say had made a reservation. Attackers were armed with steel batons and hammers, Deno said.

They drove from the scene in a red Dodge Neon, which was one of three getaway cars, according to Tinley Park police. Ashford House owner Mike Winston said Monday morning that the cars were parked behind the adjacent restaurant, Rocco's Little Italy.

Winston said he came from the kitchen area when he heard commotion in the restaurant that day and saw two men flipping tables in a dining area. Thinking the incident was isolated to the duo, he chased them and pinned one to the ground.

"If I knew there were 18 in the group, I wouldn't have done that," he said, adding that a cluster of five men began beating him while he detained the one assailant. He had a scrape on his head while working Monday but had not been hospitalized.

In court, assistant public defender Jack Verges pointed out scratches on Gilroy’s body and dried blood on his shirt, and then asked that, because Gilroy is both a victim and defendant, jail guards separate him from his accused attackers. Judge Smith said he would sign the order and set bail at $25,000.

Jack Norton, chief of the Fifth Municipal District Courthouse sheriff’s police, watched as about 15 of his deputies flanked Judge Smith’s courtroom.

“There will be no mob action in here,” he said.

I had heard on the radio today that the people who attacked were of mixed races...they were not all white....
    This is interesting....

also...it was strongly felt that this was what they called a "rehersal" for the upcomming elections...
    Scary thought
