Racial Discrimination at WI University
New Studies Show Severe Racial Discrimination at University of Wisconsin
Tuesday, 13 September 2011
(Madison, WI) Two studies released today by the Center for Equal Opportunity reveal severe discrimination based on race and ethnicity in undergraduate and law school admissions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with African Americans and Latinos given preference over whites and Asians.
The studies are based on data supplied by the schools themselves, some of which the university had refused to turn over until a lawsuit was filed by CEO and successfully taken all the way to the state supreme court. The studies were prepared by Dr. Althea Nagai, a research fellow at CEO, and can be viewed on the organization’s website, www.ceousa.org.
CEO president Roger Clegg will answer questions about the studies when they are formally released at a press conference today at 11:00 a.m. at the DoubleTree hotel in Madison—525 W. Johnson St.
The odds ratio favoring African Americans and Hispanics over whites was 576-to-1 and 504-to-1, respectively, using the SAT and class rank while controlling for other factors. Thus, the median composite SAT score for black admittees was 150 points lower than for whites and Asians, and the Latino median SAT score was 100 points lower. Using the ACT, the odds ratios climbed to 1330-to-1 and 1494-to-1, respectively, for African Americans and Hispanics over whites.
For law school admissions, the racial discrimination found was also severe, with the weight given to ethnicity much greater than given to, for example, Wisconsin residency. Thus, an out-of-state black applicant with grades and LSAT scores at the median for that group would have had a 7 out 10 chance of admission and an out-of-state Hispanic a 1 out of 3 chance—but an in-state Asian with those grades and scores had a 1 out of 6 chance and an in-state white only a 1 out of 10 chance.
CEO chairman Linda Chavez noted: “This is the most severe undergraduate admissions discrimination that CEO has ever found in the dozens of studies it has published over the last 15 years.–Claiming nobody is listening to your phone calls is irrelevant – computers do and they are not being destroyed afterwards. Why build a storage facility for stuff nobody listens to?.” Martin Armstrong

Re: Racial Discrimination at WI University
I believe this is absolutely true. I graduated from a program six years ago that only 1 in 10 applications was accepted. The college used many factors to determine the qualifications of applicants, including grade point averages, prior degrees, and work experience.
I found that many minorites were accepted into the program when it was evident that they were less qualified than non-minorites. I know this because I tutored many of them on basic math. No kidding. These people were making life and death decisions and could not set up a simple math equation to determine medication dosages.
I have 3 degrees (ok I am a life learner and over 60 years old now) and saw applicants that were paramedics and nurses with advanced degrees turned away in favor of a minorities with no degree or work experience in the field. This is wrong in my opinion. Personally, I don't care about race but the person's qualifications. I have always tried to be fair to people no matter who they are - except certain politicians. ha ha
The minorities that I attended school with and tutored (so they could pass tests) were great people but just less qualified.
Regards.

And we wonder why the US is no longer the world leader in many areas anymore? What's even scarier is that some of these grads will one day be teacher future generations. How low will we sink in important fields?

Re: Racial Discrimination at WI University
I agree with your points. Maybe we should be "Raising" our standards. Before getting into the medical field, I worked in Asia managing large business data networks. My Asian co-workers would tell me what their children would do "after school" to get an advantage so that they might be accepted into the better schools.
My wife works at the university and she complains about how poorly schools prepare new freshmen for college. They have been treated like primadonas, according to her. She talks to the students who are failing and they say...but I got "A" grades in highschool.
I went to summer school once because of my failing grades. I bet I would have been passed under today's standards.
Oh well, my property tax increase just came through.....three more school referendums to vote on......yikes!
Off my high horse.

It is dispicable when the Minority of any Country, is more important than the Majority of that Country. It reminds me of the Biblical story of Jonah.
