ACORN is supporting people who will refuse to leave their foreclosed homes and they are out and about getting media attention and passing flyers to inform those being foreclosed on that should have a "sit in" on these homes to fight being requested to leave. They have insisted on the 90 day moratorium that Obama mentioned while running for office regarding the foreclosure of homes. Let us not forget that they are the ones who threatened banks and others to give loans to those who could not qualify, those who lacked proof of identity, those who may not even hold a job. Illegal aliens are a large part of the subprime mortgages as we know. People should have opportunities to rework their loans if they are able, but the American people cannot bail out everyone while they try to keep their own homes.

Below is their calendar of ACTION Dates.

ACORN Announces the "ACORN 2009 Agenda"

January 09, 2009

Initial Actions to Focus on Abating the Foreclosure Crisis and Protecting Working Families

NEW ORLEANS – On Jan. 8, ACORN laid out its 2009 agenda of activities to spur mortgage industry reform and stem the current foreclosure crisis in the U.S.

ACORN's Chief Organizer, Bertha Lewis, was joined by several leaders from the organization to challenge the banks and government to change for the better.

"A mandatory 90-day moratorium on foreclosures will give our members across the nation time to work with families and banks to modify these oppressive mortgages already in place," said Ms. Lewis.

Over the course of the next six weeks, ACORN will deploy its "Stop the Foreclosures Now" campaign to aggressively act against the unfair consequences of many years of predatory lending to keep families in their homes.

Ms. Lewis continued, "For decades, the issue of fair and affordable housing has been at the forefront of ACORN's agenda. We have witnessed over two million families lose their homes in 2008 as lenders and the federal government failed to address the problems with our foreclosure system. Now, in 2009, we are fully committed to making President-elect Obama's 90-day moratorium a reality and driving needed change. Hard working families need support now and we will join them in their homes and on the frontline until a solution to this foreclosure crisis is achieved."

Events and tactics planned for the "Stop the Foreclosures Now" campaign include:

January 15th - Stop the Sales! Events

ACORN will coordinate events, in twenty to thirty cities, which will seek to stop the foreclosure machinery for the day. Events will take place at local sheriff, sales auctions, foreclosure attorneys' offices and city clerk offices. ACORN will be joined by elected officials, labor leaders, religious leaders and families who are being affected by the foreclosure crisis.

January 19th – President-elect Obama's Call to Service Day on MLK Day

ACORN leaders will organize outreach events centered around canvassing high-foreclosure neighborhoods, passing out informational flyers about foreclosure counseling programs, and collecting signatures on a petition calling for a comprehensive solution to the crisis. ACORN will also host a series of foreclosure town hall events later in the day or week.

Week of January 26th – Resolutions and Press Conferences

ACORN will host a series of press conferences in cities around the country announcing our demands for a foreclosure moratorium and a comprehensive solution. ACORN will also release a report entitled "The Tragic Cost of Inaction on Foreclosures."

Week of January 26th – Aggressive Press Outreach

In last week of January, ACORN leaders and allies will work aggressively to get our message out to editorial boards, in guest columns, on local talk shows, and in commentary pieces in the papers.

Week of February 2nd – Large Community Meetings to Build Support for the "Homesteading" Campaign

ACORN will host large community meetings with elected officials and allies to build on the growing grassroots community support for a foreclosure moratorium and comprehensive solution to the crisis. Families that are planning to homestead will be announced and will join their neighbors and others in planning for the first homestead kickoffs in their city.

Week of February 9th – Events in 5-10 Cities with Families Who Announce Plans to Homestead

In 5 to 10 cities, ACORN families will hold press conferences in their homes to announce plans to homestead. In most cases, families who are or have been foreclosed on will announce they are staying in their homes, and in other cases, families may be moving back to their foreclosed homes. These will be large community rallies at the homes, with neighbors, elected officials and allies.

In February and March, the Ranks of Homesteading Families Will Grow

Over the following weeks, ACORN homesteading will continue to grow in both the initial cities and in new cities. We believe that as word gets out about this effort, many families faced with foreclosure will contact us to find out how to join this movement, both to save their own homes and to win a foreclosure moratorium along with a comprehensive solution to the crisis.
