    The DE-BUNK thread

    I'll go first.

I cought this message on an immigration thread on FARK.COM (which btw, was 90% anit-illegal)...

    "

Cup_O_Jo: UM my I point out that...
IF YOU ARE ILLEGAL YOU HAVE NO CIVIL RIGHTS.
    CIVIL RIGHTS ARE FOR CITIZENS..
God the irritates me to CAPS.

You have a Constitutional basis for this right?

Of course you don't. The Constitution was never written that way. Where it specifically refers to citizens (like the 14th Amendment) it uses the word 'citizen' and everywhere else it simply says 'person'.

This is in line with the political ideologies of the Founders because the Constitution is meant to limit what the government can do to abridge natural rights. The Declaration of Independence clearly shows that the Founders considered these rights to be universal to all of mankind.

The Supreme Court has backed this up (Bridges v. Wixon, 326 U.S. 135, 14.

However, that does not mean they're entitled to the same 'priviledges' as citizens, such as protections outlined in certain acts of Congress. Hoffman Plastic Compounds v. NLRB (535 U.S. 137) deals specifically with the National Labor Relations Act.

    What to make of this?

If you're not under a countries jurisdiction (a citizen) then the rules don't apply to you because the government has no authority except to protect the US boundaries, its citizens, and maintain its sovereignty!
Never give up! Never surrender! Never compromise your values!*

I thought that was our belief and how this country would run on those principles.....hopefully then to be a good example to spread this to other parts of the world so they too could enjoy the freedoms and protections. Yes we treat anyone that's on our soil with those same values but it doesn't mean we are bound to take whoever comes here or that we are forced to take whatever they dish out to prove we are a "free" country.

I mean there are Christian values we live by but it doesn't mean we would tolerate some nut job comming into your church and raping the women because it would "un-christian" to stop them because some person picked some verse out of the Bible and mis-used it as a weapon to challenge you with.

They know darn well it doesn't mean anyone has the RIGHT to just come here and break all our laws and we're just supposed to say OK...it's a free country so that means you're free to do whatever you want.

I mean everyone pretty much agrees honesty is the best policy....unless you are hiding behind "honesty" to purposly hurt someone.

They've made their intent clear and are twisting the words to give themselves and excuse.

Civil rights pertain ONLY to citizens. The rights of personal liberty guaranteed to U.S. citizens by the 13th and 14th amendments to the Constitution and by acts of Congress. If one is not a citizen of the country, civil rights do not apply.
