You are right, there is a bill, sponsored by the Idaho Citizens

The bill was printed yesterday and will be assigned to my committee. I
plan on putting it in my drawer and not giving it a hearing.
Unfortunately, the Catholic Church is very supportive and lobbying for
it so I will get a lot of pressure to bring it to the committee.

Aha! ICAN = Idaho Citizens Action Network. Hmmm.....sounds so innocent, doesn't it. I think we need to research this "network" some more. I think I will write to the Catholic Church of Boise too.

    Thanks for the update, Tiny!

I just sent him a note back and asked where this group is located and if he'll send me a copy of the bill. Yup, now we know who these troublemakers are.

Idaho Community Action Network (ICAN) was founded in January 1999 through a merger of Idaho Citizens' Network (a grassroots group voicing concerns of low-income families) and Idaho Hunger Action Council (a group advocating for low-income families and running a statewide food program). ICAN originally had local food programs in Idaho's three largest cities and in three clusters of rural communities.
Outreach to meet the increasing need has expanded this to a total of 14 communities (ten rural). Through its local programs, ICAN gives its member families the means to put food on their tables on a monthly basis, and the training and tools they need to participate and have a voice in the public arena where decisions are made that will affect their lives in the future. ICAN uses grassroots organizing, direct action, civic participation and other strategies to impact the decisions of powerful public and private bodies - and promote economic, racial, and social justice in the long term.

In 2006-07, ICAN supports the following initiatives:
Lifting barriers to education and legal status for many of Idaho´'s immigrant youth, as proposed in the federal DREAM Act and state Idaho Student Investment Act.

Passing comprehensive immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship for immigrants living in the United States, worker protection for all workers in the country, reunification of families divided by borders, and human and civil rights for all.
Ensuring that agricultural workers are protected from exposure to pesticides.

This should help get you started with ICAN..

Thanks, guys. Here's a letter from the majority leader:

I doubt any such legislation will pass. Thanks for alerting me to it
    though.

Just got another note from Senator Goedde:

The bill won't have a number until today; you can look it up on
the Internet. Let me know if that doesn't work and I can cut and paste
for you. I was wrong, it is the Idaho Community Network and they are
    based in Boise. John Goedde

I think thats the same group Gritts is talking about....the group really is not important what is important is we get a piece in the local papers and bring this to public attention...they won't have a chance if we get the word out...Idahoans do not like paying for illegals in any way shape or form.

Tiny, as soon as you get a bill # we will all get letters to the editors out there and get plenty of attention on it!!

Nice to see that common sense and belief in the rule of law still exists in Idaho -- at least among these elected offficials.

Now if only Larry Craig would resign.
