Note the loophole big enough to drive a truck through regarding the z visas. the loophole can be found in sec. 1(a), and section 601(h). The exceptions noted in 601(h) are broad and allow for just about anyone to gain probationary z status before the date triggers are met. Jim C

On a political side-note, any Republican Senator wanting to be President does his ambitions a great service by filibustering this bill when it comes time for a final vote. This isn't legislation, this is a 1000-page surrender notice.

(2)If Mexican trucks are allowed into the United States, then the fence will not matter. There is no mention of certification that illegal immigration has been stopped or minimized only that the fence is in place.

We have now, today, sufficient laws on the books to properly address the immigration crisis. We have approval to build the fence, we laws against illegals in our nation and we have laws against employing illegals which, if enforced, would remove the demand and those here for jobs that they could not then have would self deport. BUT, we don't enforce the EXISTING laws so why in the hell would we now enforce a bunch of new ones? There should be no new laws until the ones on the books are enforced.

After reading large portions of this bill, I can not understand how any American citizen would support this bill. First it has enough loop holes in it to employ attorneys for the next decade. Second there is too much "trust me" content in this bill when the Congress and the President have proven to be untrustworthy on this issue. Finally, It calls for a huge expansion of government and a coresponding increase in taxes that will be needed for the increase in the welfare state provisions. This bill is bad for the country, it is bad for the political process and it is bad for the rule of law. There are no "good" points to the bill. In fact the only people that benefit from this bill are Mexicans and the ruling elite. I say not just no to this bill but HELL NO!

Section 130 in the proposed immigration reform law now pending in the U.S. Senate would require implementation of the "exit" portion of the U.S. VISIT visitor entry/exit tracking system at America's 300 or so land ports of entry - a program the Bush administration shelved at the end of 2006 because it was too technologically difficult and costly. PublicDiplomacyWatch.com has the details.

The only legislation the Congress will enforce to the fullest extent of the law would likely have to do with the IRS. We've lost the ideal of representative government the Founders envisioned owing to the elite's desire of self-perpetuation. We overthrew a king once, the time draws near to do it again.

Given the HUGE amount of detail in this bill and how suddenly it has been sprung on us, I would say that this fits the definition of a "conspiracy". What is needed now is an old-fashioned posse to round up and jail all the co-conspirators to this coup attempt for allowing the invasion and takeover of our country and culture.

Am I the only one to notice the major flaw in this bill? This bill focuses strictly on the illegal immigrants and it does nothing to fix the problem with the legal immigration process. I see nothing that helps the people who have patiently waited years (and in some cases DECADES) to become legal immigrants. Shouldn't the Senate spend a little bit of time and focus on the people who have been LEGALLY trying to enter the US to become citizens?

Why continue operating under the futile notion that this bill will help people "come out of the shadows." Illegal immigrants are law-breakers walking in broad daylight who even dare defy law enforcement publicly.

The last bill of this importance to the nation that was pushed through and voted on before anyone in Congress could read it all, let alone before any of the public could understand and comment on it was the **Patriot Act**. Look who is repeating the same mistake (from our standpoint) with the same bum's rush tactic (from the Senators who support this). This bill is dysfuctional on several levels, not the least of which is the very, very shabby and disrespectful way that the Senate is planning on treating we, the people.

I see some fraudulent leftist post more one party rhetoric. Well what really needs to be done is to create several new political parties. I don't like Bush or McCain's position on this topic. But the creep from Massachusetts has been trying to sell us out for decades. How any of us can vote for any Democrat or Republican is a question I can't answer. Maybe lets form the NAU only this time let us vote on the issues. We can't let them feed us what they want to.

Immigration Bill: Online and Awaiting Your Comments
    May 20, 2007 03:39 PM
« Immigration Bill: Bigger Than The Bible, Not Nearly As Enlightened | Main

Late Friday night, an electronic version of the "immigration reform" bill was finally published, and quickly found its way into the hands of KLo at the Corner. From there, it has spread all over the net, of course.

But the published version is a big, clunky PDF file (which, if you like, you can download here.) Good if you plan on printing out all 326 pages of it, not so good if you are a blogger who wants to comment on a particular section and show your readers exactly what you're talking about.

So I've taken the copy published by NRO and parsed it into a format that allows for easy browsing online. Features of this version include:

A table of contents on the left side that allows you to jump directly to a section of your choice. I've also included a "Highlights" index at the top --- which should really be "lowlights" -- where I'll collect links to the most interesting sections and commentary on the bill.

The ability to add comments to any page of the bill, including links back to a blog post or other web commentary. Just go to the section you're discussing, and click on the 'add a comment' link in the right sidebar. You can also, of course, read the comments that everyone else has provided.

Direct linking to any page of the bill. You can grab the 'permalink' for the page you are currently viewing by right-clicking on the "Page x" heading above the bill text. The format for a direct url is simple, though: http://truthlaidbear.com/immigrationbill0518.php?page=x where x is the page number you want to link to.

If those who forged this "compromise" have their way, this bill will be voted on as early as Tuesday. That's a crazily short amount of time for Senators --- let alone the American public --- to review, understand, and have a voice on the substance of such a complex bill.

My hope, however, is that by presenting the bill in this form, I will help make the bill more accessible to all, and provide a central spot where commentary, criticism, and suggested improvements can be assembled. Who knows --- maybe our erstwhile leaders on Capitol Hill will take notice, and take some of our comments to heart.

There's only one way to find out, so let's get to it...

Although I do not support some parts of the bill, I think that politicians are finally moving forward, to bring these people out of the shadows. Could you please stop calling, illegal aliens Mexicans, they could be from: Colombia,Ecuador,Argentina,Paraguay,Uruguay,Chile, Peru,Honduras,El Salvador,Nicaragua, Panama, or some of the many other Latin American Countries.

My response to Mike: Not all illegal aliens are mexican, Mike but..."Of course, not all illegal aliens come from Mexico. In 1997, the illegal alien population was 54 percent Mexican. The illegal alien population is currently 70 percent Mexican, with 30 percent coming from other countries. Latin America, including Mexico, is the source of 90 percent of illegal aliens entering into the United States." Here are some explanations of the bill from Feinstein:

Senators Feinstein and Craig Unveil Details of AgJOBS Program Included in Comprehensive Immigration Bill

Washington, DC – One day after Senators announced an historic agreement on comprehensive immigration reform, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Larry Craig (R-ID) unveiled details of the agricultural workers program included in the package.

The agricultural workers program mirrors legislation that Senators Feinstein and Craig introduced earlier this year.

“Immigration is one of the most difficult areas in which to legislate, because feelings run deep on both sides of the issue,â€
