Trump didn't believe birther conspiracy theories, son-in-law reportedly says

President-elect Donald Trump embraces son in law Jared Kushner (R), as his daughter Ivanka Trump, (L), stands nearby, after his acceptance speech at the New York Hilton Midtown in the early morning hours of November 9, 2016 in New York City.
Donald Trump's son-in-law told acquaintances the president-elect didn't really believe his own claims that President Barack Obama was born outside the U.S., New York magazine reported.
Back when Trump continuously peddled birther conspiracy theories, a person who spoke with Jared Kushner said the son-in-law assured that Trump didn't really believe it, according to the magazine.
Despite suggesting the contrary for years, Trump eventually admitted he believed the president was born in America.
CNBC has reached out to Kushner's real estate business and the Trump transition team for comment.
Kushner, husband of Ivanka Trump, had little political experience before Trump's campaign but has became an influential advisor. Concerns about mixing business and politics followed the Trump family since the election, however.
People who knew Kushner said his decision to leave behind his business, political affiliations, and friendships for Trump was "mystifying," according to the magazine. Kushner continues to defend Trump.
"People say he's unhinged," Kushner told one associate, according to the magazine. "I think he unhinged everyone else."
Ivanka Trump and Kushner are reportedly looking at houses in Washington as the president-elect forms his Cabinet.

Trump never said he believed them. Trump thought it was a worthwhile endeavor to find out whether Obama was or was not a natural born citizen of the United States and thus eligible for the office. It's one of only 3 requirements under the US Constitution so why should it be ignored if it can't be verified? Never understood the goofy people who thought there was something wrong with asking someone running for President to prove they were eligible to be President of the United States. I guess there's still plenty of goofy people around who think they're above the law and the Constitution.

Yes, but as you know some of US questioned it, and still do, same as for Obama. Obama was not eligible for the same reason Cruz is not eligible, one of their parents is not a US citizen. Cruz's further issue is he wasn't born in the US, a natural born citizen is someone born in the USA to 2 US citizens. The parents do not have to be natural born or native born citizens, they can be naturalized citizens, but they must be US citizens and the person running for President must be born in the US. Otherwise, the candidate is not a natural born citizen, but a citizen by law, because "natural born" means by nature, soil and blood.

Yes, I agree completely, except if a child is born of US citizens, I don't think they have to be born in the US as in the case of military personnel serving over sees with their spouses. Because the observance of natural born citizens has drifted so far in the minds of so many, this too, is a risky thing to observe, especially when the military allows itself to be applied as a means of immigration.

A child born of US citizens outside of the US is a citizen by law, not by nature. They require a passport issued overseas through a legal process that's part of US Naturalization Law which was established by Congress to provide for their citizenship and changes with the law. They are not natural born citizens by birth if born abroad and only become US citizens upon 2 events, issuance of the US passport and entry into the United States, but not natural born citizens. We provide and protect citizenship of children born to our citizens abroad, but it is not natural born citizenship eligible to be President or Vice President of the United States.
I know it seems unfair, but look around at who wants to claim they are natural born citizens when they were born outside the US or to non-citizens. That's all you need to know to understand why the founders established a difference between those eligible to be President and Vice President and a member of Congress. We have 4 US Senators who don't want to uphold the US Constitution who ran for President, John McCain born in Panama, Ted Cruz born in Canada to a citizen mother and a non-citizen father, Barack Obama born in Hawaii to a citizen mother and a non-citizen father and Marco Rubio born in the US to 2 non-citizens. All four are US citizens by law, but not natural born citizens. All 4 are eligible to be members of Congress, which the US Constitution requires of members to be US citizens. They are none eligible to be President or Vice President, because they are US citizens established by law, but not natural born citizens established by soil and blood as required by the Constitution to be President or Vice President.
Our Founders didn't want Presidents who were split on loyalty, world view or familiarity due to place of birth or parentage and guaranteed against it.
I sincerely hope that in the future, American Voters become familiar with the requirements and refrain from nominating non-eligible candidates to run for the office of President and show more respect for the Constitution. We were blessed with founders who could analyze issues very rapidly and arrive at reasonable solutions and protections for our nation and citizens and they did so with simple words with their plain meanings.Last edited by Judy; 01-10-2017 at 04:00 PM.
