He also said it was due to expire in the middle of
the second term of whoever is pres

It would take having to worry about an immigration bill
during a first term of whoever is elected

They also brought up what happens when the 5 years expires ,
They figured it would then be extended

As I stated in the analysis thread, I think we should start calling the Democrats who have signed onto Schuler's bill. Ask them why THEIR leadership is trying to undermine THEM? Tell them you support the SAVE ACT as it stands now and wouldn't want anything attached or anything that would undermine that legislation.

Did you mean "it would take having to worry about an immigration bill off the table during a first term?" Not sure I follow you there?

    Roy Beck on Baca's bill:

-this 5-year amnesty plan would mean the 2nd term of whoever is elected prez would not have to deal with it until their 2nd term, when they could give perm amnesty and would not have to run again

-working on a standalone, still in the making, bill has no number yet

-Hispanic caucus thinks they have a winner; Numbers is working & (having members) working and calling on this as well

-open borders people becoming emboldened by McCain as GOP nominee

-Speaker Pelosi is working this bill this week, calling members, "Can we make this work?" she's taking it seriously, so NumbersUSA is taking this seriously

-not sure what Republicans are working on this; Roy thinks if people jump on this fast no more than 10 Republicans (would support it)

-Baca thinks public is stupid as well as members of Congress

-Pelosi is taking this seriously, NumbersUSA lobbyists have been hearing about this

    -START CALLING CONGRESS NOW

    -this is the "McCain aftershock"

    -Dems saying "Republicans don't care"

-Disapointment in McCain where he is, he gained momentum with 33% wins, 2/3 of people against amnesty, and immigration was not #1 issue and McCain ran tough ads on border security etc.

-believes McCain wouldn't want to deal with amnesty in his first term, members of his party would be telling him not to do it (unlike the Dems who would be telling Obama to do it)

-Baca saying "in your face talk radio," he is testing talk radio

-Pelosi could be posturing; could be a way to stick it to McCain

Gogo - I think that's correct. Basically, the OBL crowd (with support and urging of orgs. like the CoC and the LaRazas/LULAC/MALDEF/etc) see their 'window of opportunity' and are considering squeaking some quasi-temporary amnesty through before the election.

Who are new conservative Democrats that just got elected? It's time we hit their office about this. They may be too scared of their constituents who voted them into office to go along with Baca and Pelosi. The states that voted these new members in need to know what is happening to them. They got hoodwinked by their new Congressperson.

A good place to start are the Dems who have signed onto the SAVE Act. List here (if anyone knows others, please post):
