If you’re not a fan of Rush Limbaugh, do what military recruits are told upon entering boot camp: Don’t listen to how something is said, listen to what is being said. So when Rush asks “What does collapse look like?” just sit back and listen to him talk about the fall of civilizations, before riffing on exactly how it is that things can look fine for some people in America on a superficial level, while a Great Depression-style collapse might be coming.

Compare these changes for the last year of the Bush presidency 2008 versus the last full year of the Obama presidency 2013:

• Full time workers: 120 million vs. 116 million
  

• Workforce participation: 66% vs. 63.2%
  

• Home ownership: 70% vs. 62%
  

• Median income: $55,484 vs. $52,098
  

• Poverty rate: 13% vs. 15%
  

• People on food stamps: 31.6 million vs. 47.8 million
  

• Debt-to-GDP: 64.8% vs. 101.6%
  

This isn’t about blame – it’s about doing what works. Freedom and opportunity – that is what made America a great nation.

Instead of pretending America’s been doing it wrong and needs “fundamental transformation,” let’s get back to what it did right to become an economic powerhouse with a world of opportunity for every American.
