Russia to expand Mediterranean fleet to 10 warships – Navy chief

Russia to expand Mediterranean fleet to 10 warships – Navy chief

    RT
    September 13, 2013

The Russian Navy intends to build its presence in the Mediterranean Sea – particularly in the area close to Syrian shores – to up to 10 battleships, announced Admiral of the Fleet Viktor Chirkov.
“The task is crystal clear: to avoid a slightest threat to the security of the state. This is a general practice of all fleets around the world, to be there when a tension level increases. They are all going to act on operational command plan of the offshore maritime zone,” Chirkov told journalists on Friday. “Russia will be building up its Mediterranean fleet until it is deemed sufficient to perform the task set.”
Russia began military build-up in the Mediterranean in 2012, and starting from December last year the Navy established a constant presence in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea.
On May 1, 2013 all Russian battleships operating in the area were assigned to a single task forceunder special offshore maritime zone operation command.
Currently there are seven warships deployed in the area: landing craft carriers ‘Aleksandr Shabalin’, ‘Admiral Nevelskoy’, ‘Peresvet’, ‘Novocherkassk’ and ‘Minsk’ from Russia’s Black and Baltic Sea Fleets, as well as the escort vessel ‘Neustrashimy’, and large anti-submarine ship ‘Admiral Panteleyev’.
According to previous reports, the missile-carrying cruiser ‘Moskva’ passed the Straits of Gibraltar on September 10 and is expected to arrive at its final destination in eastern Mediterranean on September 15 or 16.
Two battleships of the Russia’s Black Fleet, guided missile destroyer ‘Smetlivy’ and landing craft carrier ‘Nikolay Filchenkov’ left their bases in Sevastopol and Novorossiysk respectively and early on Friday morning and passed the Bosphorus Strait, heading to the eastern Mediterranean.
The SSV-201 reconnaissance ship ‘Priazovye’ also reportedly joined the group in the Eastern Mediterranean in early September.
Upon the arrival of the ‘Moskva’, its commander, Sergey Tronev, will assume operative command of the task force.
Commander Admiral Viktor Chirkov also informed that more than 80 Russian battleships and support vessels are currently offshore in various parts of the global ocean.
“In time of peace Navy’s duty and main application is military service, constant naval presence in the zones of military-political tension where interests of the Russian Federation are concentrated,”Chirkov said.
Admiral Chirkov recalled that a group of ships headed by the ‘Moskva’ missile cruiser recently called into ports of Cuba and Venezuela and for the first time ever passed into the Pacific Ocean via the Panama Canal, calling into ports in Nicaragua and Panama.
Chirkov also informed that a group of 10 warships and support vessels accompanied by four nuclear icebreakers right now are training on the Northern Sea Route. This task group is headed by Russia’s most powerful battleship and the flagship of the Northern Fleet, cruiser ‘Pyotr Veliky’ (Peter the Great).
“For the first time ever all Russia’s nuclear surface ships – heavy nuclear missile cruiser ‘Pyotr Veliky’ and nuclear icebreakers ‘Yamal’, ‘Vaigach’, ‘Taimyr’ and ‘50 Let Pobedy’, were combined in to perform a joined task,” Chirkov said, adding that the icebreakers assisted the taskforce to pass the strait between the Taimyr Peninsula and the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago, and now the group is continuing to move forward to the east, crossing the Laptev Sea.
Chirkov also mentioned that a group of battleships of the Pacific Fleet headed by the missile cruiser ‘Varyag’ is currently deployed in the southern-western Pacific performing an operational readiness exercise.
“This group will take part in international exercises of the naval forces of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and later will take part in the centenary celebration of the [Royal] Australian Navy,”said Chirkov.
The Russian Navy also continues to battle maritime piracy, deploying task force groups off the coasts of Somalia. In 2013 two naval task groups, one from the Northern Fleet and another from the Pacific Fleet, have been protecting sea routes near the Horn of Africa.
Russian warships accompanied 19 convoys through the dangerous waters, maintaining security of 105 vessels from 27 countries and once preventing capture of a merchant vessel.

    Putin, Kiss Our Exceptional Butt

Hey Putin! Regardless of the fact we have a Moron for president, America is still the best at everything we do!

Putin, Kiss Our Exceptional Butt Posted by Dominari Nolo on Sep 13, 2013

Hey pal. Enjoy making sport of America’s SCOAMF president in our own newspaper. But get one thing straight, or we’ll help you get it straight.. America is Exceptional. We are the greatest nation, in virtually every conceivable metric, that the world has ever seen.

After we get shed of this joke of a president; after we’ve run his statist cronies out of Washington; after we’ve buried this silly notion of a worldwide caliphate under a pile of ash; and after we’ve restored and shored up our Foundation of Freedom and allowed our economic engine to once again power the world; and after we’ve bitch-slapped China back to being merely a regional nuisance…

Then if you’re still feeling saucy, we’ll give you our full attention. It will not be over quickly. And you won’t enjoy it.
    American Exceptionalism – what
As America goes, so goes the world: as our economy goes, so goes the world. The computer, information, and communications technology — driven by America. Banking, finance, stock markets – the hub of all those is right here.

Internet? America. Culture, music, movies, and sports (except for that silly ball game played only with feet) are America-driven and America-centric. And whatever sports didn’t come from here, we still master and end up better than anybody else. Notice who’s in the World Cup. That’s right. America.
America‘s military has no only no peer, it has nobody it can even pretend to conduct war games with. Far from being a paper military, America has slaughtered every opponent we’ve dedicated ourselves to do in since 1917. And rebuilt most of them.
    American Exceptionalism – why
You know why all this is true? Probably not, but I’ll give you the Cliffs Notes version. Freedom, free market, a government that serves the people and operates by consent of the governed (well, not so much lately, but we’re fixing to remedy that). All that, and a fundamental national decency and dedication to human rights grounded in the morals of Christianity – no matter how we’ve strayed as a nation of late. And we’ve shed plenty of blood – ours and that of many others – to get it and keep it.

All those ordered freedoms allowed people to live with pride and self-reliance. The free market rewarded hard work and innovation. Add to that some land mass, population, plenty of natural resources, and borders on two major oceans, and you have the nation that in 3 years demolished the two greatest evil empires ever constructed. And then repaired the world.
And what exactly is Mother Russia?
Does anybody outside of Russia feel the need to learn the Russian language? What did your nation ever inspire? Or build? Or even repair? Human rights much? What did you ever export but bloody revolutions and human slavery communism?

Oh hey, we heard you may soon send a man to the moon. In 2030. Yeah. Exceptionalist Russia.
So mind your tongue, impudent child
The way it is now, where America finds itself ruled by an idiot and a dictator in training pants, We’ll be back on our feet. So, mind your tongue, impudent child.

Diplomacy may fail simply because both sides are piling on counter demands and losing site of the objective which is removal of Syria's Chemical weapons. Both sides are playing a dangerous game. Putin should have not commited more warships to the med, this will only heighten the tension and resulting in the US responding in kind.

Is US Military Dominance Nearing an End? Russia Sends Three More Warships to Syria

By James Daniels on September 13, 2013 Subscribe to James Daniels's Feed

As the Obama Administration presses for another war in the Middle East, Russia has thrown a few more wrenches into the picture.

Russia Today reports that the Russian Navy intends to expand its Mediterranean fleet to up to 10 vessels. Particularly, it will beef up its fleet near Syrian shores.

As noted in the report, Russia currently has seven vessels in the region. Now, three more are on the way, with the first set to arrive on September 15 or 16.

This appears to be the largest threat the US Military has faced in decades. Since at least the end of the Cold War, it has been virtually unchallenged by other major nations. In both wars in Iraq and various other attacks against much weaker opponents, major powers such as China (which has at least one ship in the region now) and Russia have, at most, voiced diplomatic opposition.

However, it appears Russia is now, at the very least, ready to play a game of chicken with the United States. It is clearly sending a message the US will not have an easy time toppling the Assad regime, which everyone outside of Obama’s immediate circle knows is the ultimate agenda.

The fact that Russia is willing to take it this far for the first time since the Cold War suggests that US Military dominance is in greater question than it has been in decades. Obviously, the Kremlin believes its military has enough juice to at least cause the US to reconsider an attack on its ally. And now, thanks to Obama’s ill-advised effort to pick on another weak nation, if Russia is successful in getting the US to back off, it could be seen as a blow to US Military superiority.

Be sure to thank President Obama for getting America into this mess.

While no American wants to see the US lose face to its once most-hated enemy or World War III break out, can anyone blame Moscow for taking a stand to protect its ally (and own interests) from an out-of-control US Government?

    Russia’s ‘Carrier-Killer’ Moskva Enters Mediterranean

    Wednesday, September 11, 2013 10:45
    (Before It's News)

    Russia Today

Russia’s Moskva missile cruiser, dubbed a “carrier-killer” by NATO, has passed through the Straits of Gibraltar and is now heading toward the eastern Mediterranean to assume command of the Russian naval force there.
The Russian Navy said in a statement that the Moskva cruiser passed through the Straits of Gibraltar on September 10.
Interfax news agency added that the Moskva cruiser, “commanded by Sergey Tronev, Captain 1st Rank of the Guards… has enough room for maneuver now.”
“The Black Sea flagship entered the Russian Navy’s area of responsibility in the Mediterranean at 11:00 pm Moscow time yesterday,” the agency reported a military source as saying.
The missile-carrying cruiser is expected to join its final destination in eastern Mediterranean on September 15 or 16.
Upon arrival, the command of the Russian Navy unit in the Mediterranean, currently stationed onboard the Admiral Panteleyev anti-submarine ship, will be relocated to the Moskva.
“The armaments and technical equipment of the missile cruiser are in working condition. The crew is ready to perform combat missions,” the source said.

    Russia’s Supersonic P-800 Yakhont Anti-Ship Cruise Missile Launch (720p)

    Friday, September 13, 2013 11:50
    (Before It's News)

    Yakhont P-800S (SS-N-26)

The Yakhont is a supersonic anti-ship missile capable of attacking maritime targets at great distances from shore (up to 180 miles).

Unlike other coastal defense systems, like the Chinese C-802 or C-701, the SS-N-26 ‘Yakhont’ can engage targets well beyond the horizon, by navigating the long mid-course ‘leg’ using inertial guidance. the high speed means the missile would acquire lower drift, relative to a subsonic missile.

At a certain distance from the target the missile will activate its radar to acquire the target, it will then perform the terminal attack maneuver, according to the preplanned attack profile selected before launch – a direct horizontal attack or high angle dive, both are performed at extremely high speed, challenging the targets’ missile defenses and electronic countermeasures.

Multiple attacks of several missiles, attacking at different profiles, would challenge the target even more, as will a coordinated attack by high-speed and cruise type missiles.

Russian Navy Moves Into Position, Ready For War in Syria, The Next Move

Posted by: Rick Wells Posted date: September 13, 2013 In: Blog Posts, News

You can’t have a war without the hardware to do it. The Americans have built up a formidable presence in the region, that’s for sure. But the Russians are no slouches either when it comes to putting their muscle where their mouths are.

Naval forces are critical to supporting whatever action either side might decide to take. Preparedness and strike ability naturally include those naval assets and we can determine to a large degree both the threat and retaliatory capability and intent by looking out to sea.

Additionally, posturing through naval deployment is an effective tool, both for directing domestic and international public opinion, as well as influencing one’s potential adversaries.

The military buildup in the Mediterranean continues, as the Russian Navy expands its presence and military capability in the region. The Syrian situation and the associated potential for American military action has prompted an increase in the Russian fleet size to ten ships, with some of those already positioned and others currently en route.

RT.com reports that the naval buildup, which began in 2012, is being consolidated into a single task force. According to Capt. First Rank Roman Martov, “This is the first time in decades that the Russian Pacific Fleet has entered the Mediterranean.”

The Russian Navy Chief has indicated that the force may also include nuclear submarines. The Russian intention is an increased presence through the formulation of a permanent force deployment.

The operation consists of ships from the Black and Baltic Sea Fleets, including landing craft carriers, an escort vessel, and a large anti-submarine ship, the “Panteleyev”. Additionally, the missile-carrying cruiser “Moskva” is expected to arrive within the next week. The guided missile destroyer “Smetlivy” and landing craft carrier “Nikolay Filchenkov” have been deployed this week, bound for the region as well. Complementing the increased capability, a reconnaissance ship, the “Priazovye” has also just joined the assemblage.

Once the “Moskva” arrives, the commander, Sergey Tronev, will take over operative command of the task force.

Once all of these elements are in place, things in Syria will likely get even more interesting.

Napolitano: Syria Strike Stalled – Obama Could Have Been First To Be Denied!

Napolitano: “Russians Right Now Are Dominant, Because The President Is Incompetent”
Syria Strike Stalled – Obama Could Have Been First To Be Denied! – Judge Andrew Napolitano

    David Icke’s Take

[BO] ‘I’m in the shit, Vlad, I am going to lose the vote over Syria and that will be the end of me – what the **** do I do?’
[Vlad] ‘Well, Mr Obomber, why don’t I suggest that Syria hand over its chemical weapons to the UN?’
[BO] ‘How would that work, sir?’
[Vlad] ‘You get that lying jerk Kerry to say in London that the only way to avoid an attack would be if Assad gave up his chemical weapons within a week.’
    [BO] ‘Yeah, then?’
[Vlad] ‘We announce the same day that we are asking Syria to hand its chemical weapons to the international community and Syria immediately agrees in principle.’
    [BO] ‘Go on …’
[Vlad] ”Then you say on American television before your vote that if Assad did this it would change your plans to attack.’
[BO] ‘So then I say that because of the new development there is no need for a vote yet and so I avoid a humiliating defeat?’
[Vlad] ‘Yes, Mr Obomber, you are understanding the plan – but still say that you will attack if it doesn’t happen to make it look as if you are still resolute and not backing down when that is exactly what you are doing.’
    [Vlad] ‘Deal, Mr Obomber?’
[BO] ‘Deal, Vlad. But what do I say to Mr Rothschild?’
[Vlad] ‘Oh dear, Mr Obomber, that is your biggest problem – I hear Mr Cameron is speaking with a much higher voice these days.’
