Last Bush comment on S-CHIP: “I don’t like plans that encourage people to move from private plans to the public. And that’s what that bill would do.â€

Why won't Democrats allow individuals and the self employed to write off their health care costs like they allow major companies to do? Everytime Republicans try to make the system more fair to individuals Democrats shoot it down.

It is the cost of private Health Plans that families cannot afford, The government should go after the plans and make the more affordable. Even those that have the plan sometimes cannot afford the co-payments or the amount the have to pay before before the plan kicks in.

Absolutely not true! The former SCHIP did exactly that. Well, it did if you were considered part of our nations poor. The whole question here is where does the parents responsibility for their children begin and end?

I wrote the following on another SCHIP thread (also in response to one of your comments):

IMHO, the cost of the Iraq war is no excuse for expansion of SCHIP. Most Democrats are using the argument that Republicans and the Bush administration don't care about the children. Personally, I think that argument is hypocritically ingenuous because it's the increased cost to the taxpayers that the Republicans and Bush administration are concerned with. The nations poor were eligible for the old SCHIP. A family making $50,000 to $81,000 is not POOR in my book. They may not be wealthy or well off, but they certainly aren't poor. Bush and the Republicans in the U.S. Congress are all for SCHIP, just not the so-called "new and improved" liberal version of the plan. By now I would think my friends on ALIPAC would know a disengenious argument when they hear one - Lord knows we hear enough of them from the open border lobby and illegal immigrants.

By the way, why should we give greedy businesses a free ticket? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the "new & improved" SCHIP encourage some folks to abandon their private plans, partially funded by their employer, for the liberals new public SCHIP. With many corporations and business making record profits, does it make sense to give them a free ride on providing employer subsidized healthcare? Furthermore, the new SCHIP will give more businesses an excuse to eliminate company healthcare plans.
