Salvini wins! Italian Senate approves new law to make deportation of migrants easier

By Paul Dijks 7 November 2018

    Matteo Salvini - Twitter

On Wednesday the Senate has approved the legislation making it easier to depot convicted asylum seekers.
The security and migration decree won with 163 votes in favour with only 59 against and 19 abstentions.

The decree, drafted by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, the leader of the League party, was approved with a confidence vote and now moves to the Lower House.

This makes it easier for the authorities to deport asylum seekers guilty of felonies. There was some tension within the ruling coalition due to some members of the 5-Star Movement (M5S) being opposed to certain elements of it.

Salvini celebrated via Twitter: “Security and Immigration decree, time 12:19, the Senate approves!!!”
    “#Salvinidecree, historic day!”.

Migrants in Italy complain about the food, clothing and toilets of their hotel. They also want an identity card 'to work'.

Italy Steps up to Offer Refuge to Pakistani Christian Woman Acquitted of Blasphemy

    Brigitte Gabriel

Thank you Italy and Deputy Minister Salvini for offering this woman refuge from Pakistan where she will surely be killed.
The Middle East is not a kind place to women who speak out. Trust me, I know all too much about that.

Italy is ready to offer sanctuary to a Pakistani Christian woman and her family following her acquittal on a charge that she blasphemed against Islam.

The proposal makes Italy the first Western country to publicly lend support to Asia Bibi, an illiterate mother of five, imprisoned for eight years after being sentenced to death for allegedly insulting an Islamic prophet.
The U.K. and Canada were also approached but have maintained an offical silence.
Bibi’s acquittal on the blasphemy charge by Pakistan’s Supreme Court last week sparked fury in the Muslim-majority country and led to public calls for her immediate execution.
The Pakistani penal code proscribes a variety of punishments for blasphemy against Islam generally. Blasphemy against the person of Muhammad, however, demands a sentence of capital punishment.

A statement by the Italian Foreign Ministry said it is prepared to implement any decision by the government to help Bibi, the Associated Press reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said he would do “everything humanly possible” to secure Bibi’s safety in his country.
Bibi’s case has been closely followed in Italy for years, and Pope Francis met earlier this year with her family in a show of solidarity.
Salvini distinguished between Bibi’s case of proven persecution and the tens of thousands of economic migrants who try to illegally enter Italy via smugglers’ boats from Libya.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been repeatedly criticised for his silence on the matter.

Amnesty International’s South Asia Deputy Director, Omar Waraich, said Khan must uphold the Supreme Court’s acquittal and work for Bibi’s immediate release and safe travel with her family to another country.
“Khan swept to power earlier this year on promises to restore the rule of law, to champion the oppressed and marginalised, and to deliver justice,” Waraich said.
“His party is, after all, called the Movement for Justice. But what does that even mean when, in the space of just two days, he went from warning the mob against using violence, to bowing to their demands?”
Meanwhile, the attorney who represented Bibi, Saif-ul-Mulook, is reported to be in fear for his life and is seeking asylum from the Netherlands.

Italian Minister puts Italians first and warns EU not to ‘jerk around’ with his people

By Paul Dijks 11 November 2018

    Federico Vinci / shutterstock.com

Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini on Sunday has said Italy could hinder European Union activities in protest of being ‘jerked around’ over the handling of migrants.
“We have shown that we know how to defend our borders and, in the eventual case it is necessary, we will also show that we can block European budgets and activities as long as Europe and some individual countries jerk the Italian people around,” Salvini said
Salvini accused Malta of giving petrol and a compass to a boat with migrants and helping them make the way towards the island of Lampedusa on Saturday.

Matteo said it was “another hostile act” after French officials crossed the Italian border to drop off migrants on the other side.
Italy has taken a strong stance on asylum seekers denying migrant-rescue ships access to nation’s ports.

Majority of Italians see immigration hardliner Salvini as the most powerful voice in government

By Voice of Europe 17 November 2018

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini - Photo: Facebook

Well, we agree, but an EMG polling agency survey now shows that 60 per cent of Italy’s voters believe League leader Matteo Salvini to be the most powerful member of the government.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte received 14 per cent in the survey. Five Star Movement leader Luigi Di Maio received 13 per cent.
A whopping 70 per cent of League voters believe Deputy Prime Minister Salvini to be the most influential member of the government. With only 39 per cent of Five Star Movement voters thinking Mr. Di Maio has some pull.
This yet another poll in Italy where we see support dropping for Di Maio and the Five Star Movement (M5S) of Italy’s coalition between M5S and the League.
Salvini’s support increases by the day as his migrant polices are drastically cutting the number of new arrivals but according to the survey 46 per cent are also supportive of his tough handling of the European Union.
A previous recent poll shows that the majority of Italians no longer support staying in the EU for the first time. Italians love populist Matteo’s strong support for his people.
Italians, as well the world, see his strength on the world stage as heroic as he constantly takes the lead in poll after poll.

Salvini keeps his promise: Dozens of illegal migrant camps to be cleared in Rome to bring back legality

By Paul Dijks 20 November 2018

    Maximumvector / shutterstock.com - Matteo Salvini / Facebook

Italy has begun to clear the 27 illegal migrants’ camps in Rome, the first having just been cleared, news agency Ansa reports.
There are photos and videos showing that these camps are similar to the improvised squatters’ camps on Paris’ streets.
Italy’s most trusted and popular populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has vowed to clear all of the illegal camps and the first one closed was called “Baobab”, named for an African tree.
On Tuesday Salvini said: “Order and security. We want to bring legality back to Rome, quarter by quarter”.
“We’ll make other clearances, using objective criteria: four for dangerous buildings and 23 because they have judicial initiatives in course. We won’t stop: we mean to move from words to deeds”, he said, promising the removal of illegal squats.

Migrant arrested for planning to poison Italian public water supply

By Voice of Europe 29 November 2018

    MN Studio / shutterstock.com

A Palestinian migrant was arrested on Wednesday morning for planning to poison a public water supply.
The man, who has an Italian residency permit, was captured in the city of Macomer.
A Palestinian national, the 38-year-old suspect was arrested by the Italian police in the Sardinian town under suspicion of planning to poison the island’s public drinking water supply.
He had been under surveillance for a lengthy period of time until the police moved in to arrest him on Wednesday.
The town, with a population of 10,000, was on lock down by the security services and they swiftly arrested the suspect as he left his home.
A judge granted security forces permission to immediately undertake the urgent operation due to the severity of the risk.
