Abraham Lincoln said it best, "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

Sanctuary cities and states are causing self-destruction.

The U.S. Constitution has no provision for immigration sanctuary, nor is there legal precedent for it in the history of the United States. When U.S. city and state officials declare their jurisdictions to be "sanctuaries" for illegal aliens, they act outside the law, and by their actions could be charged with a felony for each violation of federal law by "concealing, harboring, or sheltering illegal aliens," (8 U.S. Code, sections 1324 and 1325). Illegal entry into the U.S. –– entry without inspection –– is a misdemeanor, (8 USC Section 1324). Repeated illegal entry is a felony.

Sanctuary cities and states demonstrate complete contempt for U.S. laws; a contempt threatening to undermine the Republic. These renegade sanctuary areas attack the validity of the U.S. government, encouraging anarchy and its accompanying violence.

President Trump has been rather deliberate in moving to penalize communities refusing to follow immigration laws. Immigration laws still manage to speak loudly and clearly for those who do not cover their ears.

For example, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) states in part and without equivocation that, "Notwithstanding any other provision of Federal, State, or local law, a Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit or in any way restrict any government entity or official from sending to or receiving from the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual," Section 642 (a) of IIRIRA, 1996, and Section 5434 of the Welfare Reform Act 1996; extended 2003.

Then President Clinton signed into law IIRIRA without objection.

IIRIRA gave rise to a new "sanctuary movement" of which President Obama was the focal point. He covertly encouraged Democratically-controlled cities and states to create sanctuary communities and overtly signed executive orders thus opening pathways for wrongful residency in the U.S. and granting undeserved entitlements for illegal aliens.

The flawed concepts of sanctuary cities and states being preached and practiced by well-funded progressives/anarchists can be traced most directly to the religious-oriented sanctuary movement of the 1980s.

That movement, also without legal standing, was designed to assist foreign nationals entering the U.S. illegally in their flight from civil wars in Central America. As it turned out, however, many of those illegal aliens assisted were Mexican nationals and others from around the globe who were at best seeking freedom and a new life or at worst seeking an opportunity to do America harm. The 1980s Movement led to the growth of Hispanic criminal gangs that now ravage American cities and states.

In June 2017, Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., said Chicago’s sanctuary policy isn’t about protecting illegal immigrants but about money. Chicago doesn’t have enough money to turn illegal immigrants over to the federal authorities — a strange observation. The senator ignores the fact of the Chicago gun violence — killings and shootings — are gang related.

The Chicago area gangs are mainly Hispanic criminal gangs. The Hispanic gangs are transnational and the members are illegal aliens from Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and San Salvador according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) data.

During the 2017 July 4th weekend, Chicago experienced a weekend of 101 people shot and 15 dead. The weekend of July 15-16, 2017 saw only 11 people killed and 45 wounded. The Democratic mayor and city council members say nothing and do nothing.

Cook County (Chicago) commissioners, Jesus "Chuy" Garcia and John Fritchey propose one ID card for illegal aliens living in Chicago and Cook County. This would give legitimacy to an estimated 100,000 illegal alien gang members residing in the Chicago area. The estimated number is according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Meanwhile, Nassau, and Suffolk counties in New York state — bedroom communities of New York City, have major criminal activity by Hispanic crime gangs and the most noted crime gangs are MS-13, The Latin Kings, and Surenos.

On July 19, 2017, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini announced that gang members had been arrested for killings and attempted killings. All the arrested gang members were illegal aliens.

Those arrested included 39 MS-13 members, 6 Latin Kings and Surenos members. 15 gangbangers appear to have entered the U.S. as unaccompanied minors and part the Obama administration open borders policy. In all some 17 killings since January1, 2016 were perpetrated by crime gang members but the number may actually be more.

On July 20, 2017, Obama’s DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson lamented on CNN that President Trump’s rhetoric led to decreased illegal immigration on the southern border.
