In a recent virtual media briefing, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson joined forces with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston to address the burgeoning crisis that is threatening the stability of major American cities.
The influx of migrants, primarily driven by Biden’s border policies, have put an unprecedented strain on city services, with Mayor Johnson warning of potential collapse if federal intervention is not forthcoming.

“Our local economies are under tremendous duress,” he stated. The city, which is now a home for nearly 15,000 asylum seekers, finds its resources stretched thin as it struggles to provide services including mental care, healthcare, and education.
“All of our cities have reached a point where we are either close to capacity or nearly out of room. Without significant intervention from the federal government, this mission will not be sustained.”

A central theme of the briefing was the urgent need for federal intervention. Mayor Johnson explained that without significant support from the federal government, cities like Chicago are at risk of reaching their capacity to help migrants. “This mission will not be sustained,” he warned.
Johnson, however, blamed the city’s migrant woes on Republicans, singling out Texas Governor Greg Abbott. He took aim at the Governor’s policies during the press conference, and attempted to blame Abbott for the ongoing crisis, something that has contributed to Johnson’s record low approval rating.

“This is not just a Chicago dynamic. He is attacking our country.”

Since August 2022, 600 busses filled with migrants mainly from South and Central America have arrived in Chicago. In total, the city has received more than 26,000 illegal aliens in that time frame, more than 80 percent of whom have arrived after Johnson’s inauguration.
Despite his approval rating being measured as low as 28 percent in the city, where 80 percent of residents voted for Biden in 2020, Johnson has routinely blamed the city’s problems on Republican officials. Just two weeks ago, the mayor blamed “right wing extremism” for the influx of illegal aliens arriving in the city.
The situation has highlighted the consequences of unchecked immigration policies and the need for a more stringent national approach to border control. The strain on city services in Chicago, New York, Denver, and other major cities serves as a cautionary tale of the potential pitfalls of liberal immigration policies.

“We cannot allow buses with people needing our help to arrive without warning at any hour of day and night,” said New York Mayor Eric Adams. “This not only prevents us from providing assistance in an orderly way, it puts those who have already suffered so much in danger.”
“As temperatures drop in New York City, Chicago, Denver and other impacted cities, we are calling for the federal declaration of emergency, financial support and a national resettlement strategy.”
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston said, “I’ll say that Denver finds itself right now at ground zero in trying to resolve and respond to the migrant crisis. We at this point now have had more migrant arrivals to our city than any city in America per capita.”
