There are 435 members in the House, To pass a bill requires a "simple majority," or 2/3 of the members. Two-thirds of 435 is 290.

There are 233 dummycrats and 202 republicans. Every republican has to back the bill, and 88 dummycrats.

This requires email, phone calls and faxes NON-STOP to ALL reps until it hits the floor, is debated and PASSED. If this is not done, forget about it.

    R - red

The same bill is in the Senate where there are 49 dummycrats, 49 republicans and 3 ind's (who caucus with the dummycrats).

    Yes, thanks CitizenJustice.

Also, a simple majority is needed to bring a bill covered under a Discharge Petition to the floor for a vote (eg 218 of the 435). Yes, passing the bill is harder, but we have to approach things one step at a time. Let's get the discharge petition going first, then we'll tackle the bill passage itself.

I think the fear is that the more time that passes, the more time the pro-amnesty reps (Joe Baca et al.) will have to attach amnesty to it (the amnesty visas etc.) and effectively kill SAVE. Let's not let this happen.

Congressman (N.Y.) - Rep. Arcuri office said he is wholeheartedly for the Save Act but because he is a member of the rules committee he may not feel free to sign the Discharge Petition.

I always say I "applaud the congresspersons co-sponsorship of this bill and I urge him/her to sign the Petition to bring it to vote." They are usually very cordial and some want the address but most don't care.

I'll be in and out today. Is there a list of about 5-10 reps we should be focusing on? I'll try to squeeze in some calls.

Spoke with Rep Boren's office. They were very helpful and cordial. Some of them are dragging their feet. Since the Petition was brought up by the Republican side of the isle, the Republicans would be in charge on the floor over the bill because it has by-passed the Rules Committee. Although Boren wholeheartedly supports the bill he has concerns about bringing it up under a Discharge Petition
