Scott Brown is not opposed to healthcare reform

Scott Brown will be sworn in today to fill the seat vacated by the death of Edward Kennedy. The seat had been held for 46 years by the Democrats and Brown's election has caused a major shift in the balance of power in the United States Senate.

Brown is a Republican and his victory over Democrat Martha Coakley gives the Republicans 41 votes which could be used to block some of the Democratic agenda.

Brown will be sworn in today at 5:00 p.m. He will sit for the last 2 years of the term of the late Senator Kennedy.

Health care reform is a critical issue

Republicans hope that Brown’s election will put a final nail in the coffin of Democratic health care reform. Brown’s election resulted in the Democrats losing their super majority in the Senate.

But Brown has given some indication that he may not be exactly what the Republican leadership was hoping for. He has promised to be an “independentâ€
